Pre-Sales Engineer / Application Engineer

About the role

Serac designs and builds filling and capping machinery for food, dairy, beverage, personal care and pharma producers worldwide. Our Mexico team is hiring a Pre-Sales Engineer to be the technical decision-maker on every new opportunity.

When a customer brings us a project, you decide whether we can do it and how. You study their product, container and production process, select and configure the right equipment, source what we don’t build, and assemble the complete offer. You’ll know exactly what the solution is and what it costs, down to the tariffs.

You’ll work closely with the Mexico General Manager on the commercial side and with Serac’s Technical Director in the US on the engineering side. This is a technical role, not a sales role.

What you will do

- Assess new projects. Review customer RFQs, URSs, spec sheets, samples and drawings. Visit customer plants to understand the production process and determine whether Serac can deliver.
- Define the solution. Select and configure machinery based on product, container, closure, production rate and process conditions. Complete Serac’s internal equipment selection file and document any exceptions to the customer’s specification.
- Build initial layouts. Create and revise preliminary line layouts in AutoCAD, SolidWorks or equivalent.
- Source third-party equipment. Write specifications and send RFQs to suppliers and OEMs. Compare their offers on technical and commercial terms, and define the interfaces with Serac equipment.
- Build the complete offer. Consolidate internal and external costs, including discounts, freight, tariffs and import terms, into a technical-commercial proposal with clear scope and exclusions.
- Support the commercial process. Join customer meetings, answer technical questions and present solutions.



Assess the impact when customers change requirements.
- Hand off to execution. Make sure everything agreed during the sale is documented and transferred to Project Management.
- Represent Serac at events. Support trade shows, demos and technical presentations.

What you bring

- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering.
- At least 2-3 years in application engineering, technical pre-sales or solution definition for industrial machinery or automation.
- A strong understanding of production processes, and the ability to turn a customer’s process into an equipment solution.
- Experience building quotations or offers that include third-party equipment.
- Working knowledge of cost structure, discounts, tariffs and international purchasing terms.
- Mid-level AutoCAD, SolidWorks or equivalent - enough to build and revise layouts.
- The ability to read mechanical, electrical and pneumatic drawings.
- English at B2 level minimum - you can run technical meetings and write documentation in English.
- Fluent Spanish.
- A valid US B1/B2 visa.
- A home base in Mexico City or the metro area.
- Availability to travel up to 50% within Mexico, the Caribbean, the US and Europe.
- A track record of working independently and managing your own priorities.

Preferred

- Experience with packaging, filling or capping machinery.
- Dynamics 365 and PTC Windchill.

Working conditions The role is hybrid, with regular visits to customer and supplier sites. You must be able to lift up to 35 lb (16 kg) and to stand, walk, kneel or sit for extended periods. Business travel expenses are covered.
