Embedded Systems Test Engineer – Firmware & Hardware Validation Our client, a global manufacturing company, is seeking a Firmware Test Engineer to support the validation and quality assurance of embedded firmware used in industrial sensing products, including flow sensors and process analyzers.
This position will be responsible for developing and executing structured manual and automated tests, analyzing firmware and system‑level failures, and working directly with hardware and laboratory equipment. The Firmware Test Engineer will collaborate closely with firmware, electrical, and systems engineering teams to ensure that product functionality, reliability, and performance meet defined technical requirements.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on, analytical, and self‑driven engineer who can derive test cases from technical requirements, identify gaps and edge cases, challenge assumptions when necessary, and clearly explain and defend test results.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field.
Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of experience in embedded firmware testing, embedded systems testing, or firmware development.
At least 1 year of experience using programming or scripting languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, or C#.
Experience developing and executing both manual and automated test cases for embedded firmware systems.
Strong ability to review technical requirements and convert them into detailed, structured test cases in English.
Hands‑on experience debugging firmware, hardware, and system‑level issues.
Experience analyzing automated test failures, logs, and unexpected system behavior.
Familiarity with test automation frameworks, logging tools, and debugging methodologies.
Experience using version control systems such as Git.
Ability to work directly with embedded hardware, sensors, analyzers, and communication systems.
Professional English communication skills, including the ability to document technical findings and test cases clearly.
Knowledge
Embedded firmware and embedded systems testing.
Manual and automated testing methodologies.
Black‑box and white‑box testing.
Firmware debugging and system‑level troubleshooting.
Test case development and requirements traceability.
Regression testing and defect validation.
Programming or scripting using Python or similar languages.

Laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, and related electronic test equipment.
Continuous integration and continuous deployment tools such as Jenkins.
Test automation pipelines and existing test framework maintenance.
Industrial sensing products, instrumentation, analyzers, or Io T devices.
New Product Introduction and sustaining engineering environments.
Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills.
High attention to detail and product quality.
Ability to question results, challenge assumptions, and identify root causes.
Structured execution and discipline in following defined testing procedures.
Self‑starter capable of working independently with limited supervision.
Clear and effective technical communication.
Ability to explain and defend test results using objective technical evidence.
Strong ownership mindset and accountability for product quality.
Curiosity and ability to identify test gaps, corner cases, and unexpected behavior.
Ability to collaborate effectively with firmware, electrical, systems, and cross‑functional engineering teams.
Innovative thinking while maintaining compliance with established engineering processes.
Responsibilities
Review firmware and system requirements and derive detailed, structured test cases in English.
Develop and execute manual and automated test cases for embedded firmware systems.
Perform black‑box and white‑box testing to achieve appropriate system and functional coverage.
Analyze automated test failures by reviewing logs and investigating firmware and system‑level behavior.
Execute manual tests for scenarios, edge cases, and product behaviors that cannot be effectively automated.
Identify gaps in test coverage, corner cases, and unexpected product behavior.
Perform hands‑on testing using real hardware, sensors, process analyzers, communication systems, and laboratory equipment.
Debug firmware issues through system‑level investigation and hardware interaction.
Document defects with clear technical evidence, reproduction steps, expected behavior, and presente results.
Explain and defend why a product fails or behaves differently from defined requirements.
Support both New Product Introduction and sustaining engineering activities, including issue validation, regression testing, and ongoing product support.
Develop and maintain test automation using Python or similar scripting languages, with approximately 50% of the role focused on automation.
Maintain and improve existing test frameworks, methodologies, and automation pipelines.
Participate in test case reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of test coverage and quality.
Collaborate closely with firmware, electrical, systems, and other engineering teams.
Contribute to the improvement of embedded systems testing strategies and overall product reliability.
