A janitor is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and basic maintenance of buildings and grounds.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Janitors perform a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure buildings are safe, hygienic, and well-maintained. Typical duties include:
- Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and polishing floors
- Cleaning restrooms, kitchens, and public areas, including dusting, sanitizing, and restocking supplies
- Emptying trash cans, removing debris, and managing waste disposal
- Washing windows, walls, and furniture
- Performing minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaks, and basic equipment repairs
- Outdoor maintenance, including sweeping walkways, and clearing outdoor waste bins




- Inspecting property for safety hazards and reporting major maintenance issues
**Skills and Qualifications**
- Physical stamina and strength to lift, bend, and perform repetitive tasks
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures, safety regulations, and proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Ability to work independently or in small teams, sometimes during non-traditional business hours
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
- Knowledge of Mexican Occupational Health and Safety Framework or other safety and sanitation credentials
