This role serves as the critical link between production demands and manufacturing execution, optimizing resource utilization while maintaining quality standards.
The Shop Floor Planner develops production schedules, coordinates material flow, balances capacity with demand, and collaborates across departments to ensure smooth operations and exceptional customer service.ResponsibilitiesProduction Planning & SchedulingDevelop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules for the coiling department to meet customer demand and delivery commitmentsCoordinate material flow and ensure raw materials are available to meet production requirements without disruptionBalance production capacity with customer demand and delivery commitments to optimize throughput and resource utilizationAdjust schedules in real‐time to accommodate priority changes, equipment issues, or material shortages while minimizing customer impactMonitor work‐in‐progress (WIP) and finished goods inventory levels to maintain optimal inventory balanceSequence production orders to optimize equipment utilization, minimize changeovers, and maximize efficiencyPlan for capacity constraints and coordinate with management on capacity expansion needsCoordination & CommunicationCollaborate with production supervisors, maintenance, quality, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations and resolve operational challengesCommunicate schedule changes and priorities to production floor personnel clearly and in a timely mannerCoordinate with procurement and supply chain teams regarding material availability, lead times, and supply issuesInterface with sales and customer service teams on order status, delivery commitments, and potential delaysParticipate in daily production meetings and provide status updates on schedule adherence, production performance,
and key issuesServe as liaison between planning, production, and support functions to ensure alignment and communicationProcess OptimizationIdentify and implement opportunities to improve production efficiency, throughput, and schedule adherenceAnalyze production data to identify bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and opportunities for improvementSupport continuous improvement initiatives within the coiling department using Lean and Six Sigma methodologiesRecommend process improvements to reduce waste, optimize resource utilization, and improve on‐time deliveryMonitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and production metrics including schedule adherence, capacity utilization, and cycle timeParticipate in kaizen events and improvement projects to enhance planning and scheduling processesDocumentation & ReportingMaintain accurate production records and documentation in compliance with company standardsGenerate reports on production performance, schedule adherence, capacity utilization, and efficiency metricsTrack and report on production variances and root causes to identify systemic issuesEnsure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and quality requirementsDocument planning processes, standard operating procedures, and best practicesProvide data and analysis to support management decision‐makingQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent requiredMinimum 3-5 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operationsStrong understanding of manufacturing processes, preferably in coiling, metal forming, or related industriesProficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) with advanced Excel skillsExcellent organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple prioritiesStrong analytical and problem‐solving abilities with data‐driven decision‐making approachEffective communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to collaborate across all organizational levelsAbility to work in a fast‐paced environment and handle changing prioritiesUnderstanding of production scheduling principles, capacity planning, and material requirements planningAbility to work 2-2-3 rotating shift schedule including day and night shiftsPhysical ability to work in a manufacturing environment and walk production floor areasAbility to lift up to 25 pounds occasionallyCapability to work extended periods at a computer workstationAdditional Qualifications,
PreferredAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or related fieldAPICS certification (CPIM or CSCP)Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologiesKnowledge of coil processing equipment, capabilities, and production constraintsExperience with advanced planning and scheduling (APS) software or manufacturing execution systems (MES)Familiarity with inventory management best practices including safety stock, reorder points, and ABC analysisUnderstanding of finite capacity scheduling and constraint‐based planningExperience in furniture manufacturing, metal fabrication, or bedding componentsSix Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certificationKnowledge of TOC or DBR scheduling methodologiesWork EnvironmentThis position is located in an active industrial manufacturing and distribution center with moderate to high noise levels, temperature variations, and material handling equipment in operation.
The role involves a combination of office work and occasional walking through production floor areas.
