VOLCANIX AUTOMATION is seeking experienced Controls & Robotics Engineers with strong BIW (Body-in-White) background to support automotive projects across North America, primarily with General Motors and other OEMs.
This role involves working on automotive body shop systems, including robotic welding cells, framing stations, and high-speed automated lines.
Candidates must be comfortable working on-site in demanding production environments and supporting launches, integrations, and troubleshooting activities.
Responsibilities
Program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
Program and integrate industrial robots inBIW applications (spot welding, handling, sealing)
Commission and debugbody shop equipment and robotic cells
Support production launches, cycle time improvements, and downtime reduction
Integrate robots with PLC-controlled systems and safety devices
Work with welding systems (spot welding, projection welding, stud welding)
Perform system validation, buy-offs, and customer acceptance tests
Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and robotic issues on-site
Collaborate with controls, mechanical
Production teams
Required Skills
Controls Engineering:
Strong PLC programming experience
Platforms:
Allen-Bradley (RSLogix / Studio ****)
Siemens (TIA Portal)
Experience with industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet)
Robotics (BIW Focus):
Experience with industrial robots such as:
Fanuc
KUKA
Experience in
robotic welding applications (spot welding highly preferred)
Strong commissioning and troubleshooting skills in body shop environments
Mandatory Requirements
2+ years of experience in BIW (Body-in-White)
Experience withGeneral Motors standards (GCCS / GRS)
or
strong experience in BIW within the automotive industry (OEM or Tier
1)
Preferred Experience
OEM experience (GM, Ford, Stellantis, Tesla)
Tier 1 automotive suppliers
Experience with:
Framing stations
Geo stations
Re-spot lines
Integration of welding controllers (e.g., Bosch, ARO)
Vision systems and error proofing (EPP)
General Requirements
Willingness to travel ******% across North America
Ability to work independently on customer sites
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting mindset
Good communication and documentation skills
Engineering or technical degree preferred
