The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in supporting the accounting operations of a Retirement Community during a period of significant transformation and growth. This is a hands‑on accounting position for a highly motivated professional who thrives in fast‑paced environments, takes ownership of deliverables, and consistently meets deadlines.
The ideal candidate is someone who built a strong accounting foundation early in their career, preferably through experience in a public accounting firm or small accounting practice, and has since developed solid full‑cycle accounting experience. This individual must be proactive, detail‑oriented, and committed to delivering accurate work on time without requiring constant follow‑up.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full‑cycle accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and month‑end close
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Analyze financial transactions and identify discrepancies or unusual variances
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
- Assist with financial statement preparation and reporting activities
- Support internal and external audits
- Collaborate with team members to resolve accounting issues and improve processes
- Ensure all assigned deliverables are completed accurately and within established deadlines
- Escalate risks, blockers, or missing information proactively rather than waiting until deadlines are missed
- Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiencies
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Accounting
- Professional License (Cédula Cualificado)
- 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong full‑cycle accounting experience
- Hands‑on experience with month‑end close
- Experience preparing and reviewing accruals, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail and sense of ownership
Preferred
- Experience working in a small public accounting firm
- Experience in audit, tax, or accounting services environments
- Experience supporting multi‑entity accounting operations
