DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:The Surgical Technician works alongside surgeons, surgical assistants, nurses and anesthesiologists to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures by handling the necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment.QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Certificate or associate's degree in surgical technologyExperience:Two or more years of related experience, sterile processing experience preferred.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1.
Directly assists the physician and nurses with procedures in the operating rooms2.
Performs standard scrub duties3.
Sets up sterile table with instruments, equipment, supplies and medications4.
Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization5.
Ensures all equipment is functioning6.
Preps patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting the surgical site7.
Assists with properly positioning the patient on the operating table8.
Operates various surgical and medical equipment in the operating room9.
Passes instruments to the surgeon during the procedure10.
Accounts for needles, instruments, and sponges during and after surgery11.
Assists with terminal cleaning of the operating room12.
Maintains inventory levels for the operating room and ASC13.
Orders supplies from Materials Manager as needed14.
Maintains service contracts and preventative maintenance measurements for equipment15.
Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and clinic business16.




Helps transport patients from the operating room to the recovery room17.
Properly cares for specimens by packaging them for laboratory analysis18.
Has regular and predictable attendance19.
Adheres to RRSC policies and procedures20.
Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work area21.
Performs other duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Basic knowledge of medicine, biology, psychology, occupational and life safetyAbility to use surgical equipment and instrumentationAbility to comprehend speech and effectively communicate with other operating room team membersMust follow, convey and understand written and oral instructionsAbility to establish and maintain cooperative working relationshipsCompliance with continuing and mandatory education programsAbility to respond quickly when priorities and/or the patient's condition changesAbility to prioritize and handle multiple tasksAbility to function independently without constant supervisionRequirementsWORKING CONDITIONS:Environmental Conditions:Medical Office environment; Ambulatory Surgery CenterPhysical Conditions:Must be able to sit and/or stand for prolonged period of timeMust be able to bend, crouch, stoop, reach, twist and stretchRequires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment, etc.Must be able to lift, pull, and push with assistance of one other person, the weight of the average patientMust be able to work as scheduled—typically from 07:30 to 15:30 M-F, and some weekends#J-*****-Ljbffr
