**Field Civil Engineer Scope**

**Introduction**:
AB Consulting GSS is a U.S.based supplier of contract engineering talent to the automotive industry. A major client is seeking a Project Support Civil Engineer to oversee construction of reinforced concrete foundations for process equipment, steel building structure and roofing at its existing facility in El Salto, Jalisco Mexico.
**Position Overview**:
- Work with investor/builder, Construction Manager, and The Client GE facility team to ensure the structure is built to quality according to the drawings and specifications. MAIN GOAL.
- In general, perform the role of the “Owner’s engineer” as identified in all civil and structural related specifications. Here are some important items included in the specifications for the Owner’s engineer:
- Ensure that the soil testing company performs soil compaction tests before the next steps of construction is done (before concrete or reinforcement is installed, or before additional lifts/layers of soil are compacted).
- Inspect concrete reinforcement (rebar) and confirm it is installed correctly before concrete is placed. Notify the construction manager and/or contractor of any construction errors.
- Verify that any cast-in place anchors are installed before concrete is placed.
- Ensure that any underground utilities, piping, grounding is installed before it is covered with new concrete.
- Inspect the concrete truck delivery tickets and ensure the mix design matches the approved concrete mix submittals, by checking the mix design name. Ensure the concrete deliver time does not exceed the maximum allowable time.



Contractors typically add water to the concrete truck upon delivery; ensure the water to cement ratio is not exceeded.
- Ensure that concrete cylinder samples are taken by the materials testing company.
- Ensure the contractor installs curing compounds onto the concrete.
- Ensure that structural steel matches the shop drawings and erection drawings.
- Identify and notify the construction manager and/or contractor of any damaged materials (before, during, and after the material is installed).
- Ensure any roof trusses are reinforced (if indicated on drawings) before any equipment loads are applied to the trusses. Equipment such as conveyors, platforms, rooftop HVAC units, etc.
- Communicates discipline specific field related critical information to the Construction Manager (The Client). This includes being the main conduit of information between the local field team (MG - investor/builder), design engineer(s) (LEIF - engineering company working for MG), and the respective GE engineering team(s).
- Provide input about site safety conditions.
**Principal Responsibilities**:
- Review the construction drawings provided by Investor/Builder/Engineer of record, specifications and other released files. Perform actions as directed in Engineering Releases. Report any design issues to the Construction Manager and GE Corporate Civil Engineer for evaluation and correction.




- Understand the project objectives for the production equipment being installed.
- Be aware of Electrical and Mechanical facilities requirements. Help with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to coordinate civil, electrical, and mechanical construction activities.
- Provide civil engineering support during installation of equipment. Identify problems, provide or recommend solutions, and coordinate with GE as required to resolve issues.
- Report on progress. Check revisions (red line drawings) for use in developing as-built drawings and documentation.
- Look for solutions to problems and provide advice.
- Review bid documents, purchase orders and supplier quotations - verify that installation and performance standards are met.
- Verify Field Change Orders (FCO). Validate quantity of labor, materials, and equipment submitted by Contractor.
**Personal Skills/Attributes**:
- Ability to set expectations and hold others accountable (ie contractors).
- Ability to establish a safe construction work site with a goal of zero accidents.
- Must keep customers satisfied and maintain a high level of quality so all projects are completed with minimum disruption to the production requirements of the corporation. Must be able to work with floor level construction and manufacturing associates.
- Must be able to represent the company in a positive manner when dealing with outside vendors, consultants and construction contractors. Must have strong negotiating skills to deal with construction contractors.
