We are looking for a Senior Packet Core & Policy Control Engineer with extensive experience in Packet Core networks, PCRF platforms, APN management, traffic engineering, and mobile data services within LTE/EPC environments. This role will support the implementation, optimization, migration, and troubleshooting of SPGW and PCRF-related services supporting mobile broadband, VoLTE, VoWiFi, enterprise, and IoT connectivity at carrier scale. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across complex network transformations, service integrations, platform migrations, infrastructure decommissioning, traffic segmentation initiatives, and critical incident resolution within multivendor environments.
What You’ll Do
Design, implement, configure, and optimize Packet Core services across SGW, PGW, SPGW, and PCRF platforms.
Manage the complete APN lifecycle, including creation, configuration, migration, consolidation, optimization, traffic steering, and service onboarding.
Lead traffic-engineering initiatives to improve network resiliency, redundancy, load balancing, performance, and service availability.
Define and implement subscriber traffic-segmentation policies for consumer, enterprise, IoT, VoLTE, and VoWiFi services.
Support the integration of Packet Core elements with IMS infrastructure for VoLTE and VoWiFi services.
Implement and validate ePDG connectivity requirements for VoWiFi services.
Perform advanced troubleshooting of user-plane and control-plane issues affecting mobile data and voice services.
Analyze and resolve GTP-C and GTP-U issues affecting subscriber connectivity, session establishment, traffic forwarding, and service performance.
Develop and execute migration plans for APN consolidation, service modernization, platform replacement, and legacy infrastructure decommissioning.
Define success criteria, validation activities, rollback procedures, and service-continuity measures for network changes.
Create Low-Level Design documents, Methods of Procedure, rollback plans, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and change documentation.
Lead technical discussions with vendors, operations teams, engineering teams, and other stakeholders during deployments, migrations,
and critical incidents.
Conduct root cause analysis for network incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve service stability.
Optimize transport and user-plane performance, including MTU, routing, forwarding behavior, traffic distribution, and GTP transport.
Support the deployment, integration, testing, and validation of new mobile services, including VoLTE, VoWiFi, IoT, enterprise, and M2M connectivity.
Analyze packet captures, network traces, logs, alarms, and performance indicators to identify and resolve service issues.
Support multivendor interoperability across Packet Core, PCRF, IMS, SBC, AAA, firewall, and next-generation voice platforms.
Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to engineering and operations teams. What You’ll Need
Extensive experience in EPC, LTE Core, Mobile Core, or Packet Core engineering.
Strong hands-on experience with SPGW, PGW, SGW, and PCRF platforms.
Strong understanding of LTE/EPC architecture and mobile data-service flows.
Experience configuring and managing APNs, including traffic steering, segmentation, migration, and service onboarding.
Strong knowledge of GTP-C and GTP-U protocols.
Experience with PCRF architecture, integration, PCC rules, policy enforcement, and subscriber-policy provisioning.
Strong understanding of QoS management, charging policies, service differentiation, and dynamic policy assignment.
Experience with traffic engineering, load balancing, redundancy, high availability, and network resiliency.
Experience integrating Packet Core platforms with IMS environments.
Knowledge of VoLTE, VoWiFi, ePDG, SIP flows, SBC integration, and voice/data interworking.
Experience supporting IoT, M2M, enterprise, and consumer mobile-data services.
Strong user-plane and control-plane troubleshooting capabilities.
Experience analyzing packet captures, traces, logs, alarms, and network-performance indicators.
Experience preparing LLDs, MOPs, migration plans,
rollback plans, and operational documentation.
Proven experience supporting complex network migrations, platform decommissioning, and service-modernization initiatives.
Strong understanding of routing, forwarding, MTU, traffic isolation, and connectivity optimization.
Experience working in multivendor carrier-grade environments.
Strong root cause analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to lead technical discussions and coordinate effectively with vendors, customers, engineering teams, and operations stakeholders.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Availability to work from the client’s offices in Mexico City two to three times per week. Nice-to-Have
Experience with multiple Packet Core and Policy Control vendors.
Experience with VoWiFi-to-VoLTE handover validation.
Experience integrating Packet Core platforms with AAA systems, firewalls, SBCs, and next-generation voice platforms.
Experience leading technical war rooms and resolving critical production incidents.
Experience with Packet Core transformation, modernization, and legacy-platform decommissioning projects.
Experience designing high-availability architectures for IoT and enterprise connectivity.
Automation or standardization experience using scripting, templates, Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
Relevant certifications from major telecommunications equipment vendors. Deliverables / Success Criteria
