Dotmatics seeks a Staff Data Engineer to lead the technical architecture of a distributed, event-driven data processing platform serving drug discovery and scientific research. This role involves evolving a production system while migrating to Node.js/TypeScript and Python, managing multi-tenant workflows and complex distributed systems challenges.
Responsibilities
Define and drive system architecture for event-driven data processing services
Lead migration of key platform components to Node.js/TypeScript and Python stack
Establish engineering standards, patterns, and best practices for distributed systems
Design and implement asynchronous data pipelines for scientific workflows
Improve observability and reliability across multi-service platform
Requirements
Demonstrated expertise in distributed systems design and implementation
Strong experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous message passing
Proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript and Python or equivalent systems languages
Experience with Kafka, GraphQL, and RESTful API design
Track record leading technical architecture decisions and mentoring engineering teams
Deep understanding of multi-tenancy, crash recovery, and state coordination patterns
