About Howard Financial
Howard Financial is a tech-forward outsourced accounting and finance firm founded in 2023, serving clients in Vacation Rental, Hospitality, Consumer & E-Commerce, and Development & Real Estate. We combine deep industry knowledge with modern tools to deliver accurate, timely financials our clients can actually use.
About the Role
We're looking for an Accountant to join our Hospitality team and own the daily and month-end accounting for full-service hotel clients. These properties run rooms plus food and beverage outlets, so the role is built around high transaction volume, tight daily deadlines, and accuracy at speed.
You'll prepare daily income journals, reconcile credit card processors, and support a five-day month-end close, working under the review of a Senior Accountant or Controller. It's a strong fit for a curious, self-driven problem solver who knows hotel accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post five daily income journals on a strict schedule: three delivered by 10:00 a.m. EST and two by 2:00 p.m. EST (for West Coast properties).
- Process high volumes of rooms, food and beverage, and outlet transactions with speed and accuracy.
- Reconcile credit card activity across processors such as Fiserv (First Data), Elavon, American Express, and FreedomPay against deposits and the general ledger.
- Reconcile daily revenue between the property management system (Oracle OPERA) and the financial system (Profit Sword).
- Support month-end close within a five-day window, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies independently, researching the root cause rather than escalating every open item.
- Communicate with hotel finance teams and property staff to obtain missing documentation and clear exceptions.
- Prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules for Senior Accountant or Controller review.
- Flag process gaps and suggest improvements that make daily work and close faster and cleaner.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience in a high-volume transactional environment.
- Hotel or hospitality accounting experience (strongly preferred); extensive high-volume transactional experience in another industry will also be considered.
- Hands-on experience with credit card reconciliations across multiple processors.
- Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and accrual accounting.
- Professional English (C1), written and spoken, for direct client communication.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work quickly under hard daily deadlines.
- Curious, self-driven problem solver who researches issues and resolves them independently.
- Flexibility to work extended hours during month-end close.
Preferred:
- Experience with Oracle OPERA, Profit Sword, or PEP.
- Experience preparing daily income journals for full-service hotels with food and beverage outlets.
- Familiarity with processors such as Fiserv (First Data), Elavon, American Express, and FreedomPay.
- Prior experience at an outsourced accounting firm or managing multiple properties at once.
- CPA, CA, or equivalent certification in progress.
What We Offer
- 100% remote working environment.
- Competitive salary in USD (or local equivalent).
- Opportunities for career growth and professional development.
- Collaborative, international team culture.
