About MAVI
MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies. Founded in **** and backed by a $4 million seed round led by Harlem Capital, MAVI was recently featured in TechCrunch.
Our professionals join in-house finance teams in full-time, long-term roles, not short-term projects. The companies we work with range from venture- and PE-backed businesses to public companies and CFO advisory firms, including Athena Club, MotherDuck, and Within.
The work centers on judgment. As AI takes over more transactional accounting, the people who review the output, question it, and own the result matter more than ever. MAVI professionals work alongside US finance leaders, using AI tools to do more and applying the judgment to catch what those tools get wrong. At one client, an AR dashboard now used across the organization was built almost entirely by MAVI talent.
We stay involved throughout, from role alignment and interview preparation to onboarding and long-term career development.
The Role
We are seeking a Nonprofit Accountant to own nonprofit accounting and restricted fund reporting at a US nonprofit organization, working remotely from Mexico.
You will own a defined set of close tasks, from journal entries and reconciliations to supporting schedules, with a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager reviewing your work. The scope grows as quickly as your accuracy does.
What You'll Own
Restricted funds.
Track net assets with and without donor restrictions, and record releases.
Contributions.
Record contributions, pledges, and in-kind gifts, and reconcile to the donor database.
Functional expenses.
Allocate expenses across program, management, and fundraising.
Audit and 990.
Prepare audit schedules and support the Form 990.
Close tasks.
Complete your close checklist on schedule, and document each task so a reviewer can follow it without asking.
What We're Looking For
2+ years of accounting experience
Hands-on experience with month-end close tasks, journal entries, and account reconciliations
Experience with nonprofit accounting under ASC 958
US GAAP experience, or strong NIF (Mexico) or IFRS experience with exposure to US clients or entities
Experience with Sage Intacct, Blackbaud Financial Edge, or QuickBooks Online
Strong written and spoken English for daily work with US teams
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent professional qualification
Preferred
Contador Público Certificado (CPC), US CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent (completed or in progress)
Experience reconciling a donor database such as Raiser's Edge or Salesforce NPSP
Experience using AI tools in accounting workflows, with the judgment to review and correct AI-generated output
Who This Role Is For
An early-career accountant who wants to learn US GAAP properly, takes review notes as a chance to improve, and would rather ask a good question than guess.
