About MAVI
MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies. Founded in **** and backed by a $4 million seed round led by Harlem Capital, MAVI was recently featured in TechCrunch.
Our professionals join in-house finance teams in full-time, long-term roles, not short-term projects. The companies we work with range from venture- and PE-backed businesses to public companies and CFO advisory firms, including Athena Club, MotherDuck, and Within.
The work centers on judgment. As AI takes over more transactional accounting, the people who review the output, question it, and own the result matter more than ever. MAVI professionals work alongside US finance leaders, using AI tools to do more and applying the judgment to catch what those tools get wrong. At one client, an AR dashboard now used across the organization was built almost entirely by MAVI talent.
We stay involved throughout, from role alignment and interview preparation to onboarding and long-term career development.
The Role
We are seeking a Fund Controller to own fund accounting and investor reporting at a US private equity or venture capital firm, working remotely from Mexico.
This is a leadership seat. You will be accountable for the area's policies, controls, and results, reporting to the CFO or VP of Finance, and you will be the person leadership and auditors turn to for a defensible answer.
What You'll Own
NAV and capital accounts.
Prepare NAV, capital account statements, and partner allocations.
Capital activity.
Process capital calls and distributions, and keep the waterfall accurate.
Investments.
Record investment activity and fair value marks, and reconcile to custodians.
Investor reporting.
Prepare quarterly investor reports and support LP requests.
Fund audits.
Lead the annual fund audits and the K-1 process with tax advisors.
Policy and judgment.
Set accounting policies for the area, conclude on complex positions, and document them so they hold up in an audit.
Leadership partnership.
Present results and recommendations to the CFO, the executive team, and where needed the board.
What We're Looking For
10+ years of accounting experience
Experience leading an accounting function and presenting results to executive leadership
Experience with private fund accounting, capital calls, and partner allocations
US GAAP experience, or strong NIF (Mexico) or IFRS experience with exposure to US clients or entities
Experience with Allvue, Investran, eFront, or QuickBooks Online
Strong written and spoken English for daily work with US teams
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent professional qualification
Preferred
Contador Público Certificado (CPC), US CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent (completed or in progress)
Experience with fund administrators and ASC 946
Experience using AI tools in accounting workflows, with the judgment to review and correct AI-generated output
Who This Role Is For
An accounting leader who wants to own a function outright: technically strong enough to reach a defensible conclusion without escalating it, and credible with a CEO, an auditor, and a junior accountant alike.
