About the Role

Our client, WhatJobs Direct, is looking for a talented and experienced Intellectual Property Lawyer to join their legal team in Tijuana, Baja California. This role is essential for protecting and managing the company's intellectual property assets, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in IP law, with a proven track record in IP strategy, portfolio management, and enforcement. We seek a meticulous, proactive, and business-savvy legal professional who can effectively navigate the complexities of IP law in a general context. This position is offered under a Hybrid work model, providing a balance between remote work flexibility and necessary in-office collaboration at our Tijuana, Baja California location.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement IP strategies to protect the company's innovations and brands.
- Manage the registration and maintenance of patents, trademarks, and copyrights globally.
- Conduct IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing agreements.
- Draft and negotiate IP-related agreements, including licenses, assignments, and R&D; collaborations.
- Monitor the marketplace for potential IP infringements and take appropriate enforcement actions.
- Advise on IP implications of product development, marketing, and advertising.
- Manage trade secret protection programs.




- Provide legal counsel on open-source software compliance.
- Liaise with patent and trademark offices, external counsel, and other stakeholders.
- Stay current with evolving IP laws and regulations worldwide.

Requirements

- Law degree (LLB or JD) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience specializing in Intellectual Property law.
- Admitted to practice law in Mexico, with experience handling international IP matters.
- Proven expertise in patent, trademark, and copyright law.
- Experience in IP litigation and dispute resolution is a plus.
- Strong understanding of IP valuation and monetization strategies.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in both Spanish and English (written and verbal).
- Ability to thrive in a Hybrid work environment, collaborating effectively remotely and in the office in Tijuana, Baja California.
- Strong business acumen and ability to align legal strategy with business objectives.
