Balto | Machine Learning Team | 1-2 years of ML engineering experience

Salary: MXN 40,000–50,000 gross per month.

About the role

Join Balto's Machine Learning Team to build and improve models that power AI features for contact center conversations. You'll work closely with the VP of AI, turning experiments into working models and helping bring them into production.

This is an early-career role for someone who already has practical experience developing models and wants to deepen those skills. We value curiosity, sound programming fundamentals, and the ability to investigate problems. You'll receive guidance while taking ownership of hands-on implementation.

Hands-on model development is required. The experience must involve developing models from scratch or using libraries and existing model weights. Projects consisting only of calls to hosted AI APIs, paid AI services, or managed cloud AI services do not meet this requirement.

What you'll bring

- 1-2 years of hands-on ML engineering experience, with projects you can explain in detail: what you built, how you trained or adapted the model, and how you evaluated the results.




- Strong Python fundamentals and practical experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Experience implementing, training, or fine-tuning models in one or more of these areas: LLMs, transformers, and natural language processing; computer vision; signal processing, audio, or automatic speech recognition (ASR).
- Experience preparing data, choosing appropriate evaluation metrics, and investigating model errors.
- Curiosity, clear communication, and a willingness to learn unfamiliar techniques and tools.

You do not need experience in every area listed above.

What you'll do

- Implement, train, fine-tune, and evaluate machine learning models using Python and frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Prepare datasets, build training and evaluation pipelines, analyze errors, and improve model performance.
- Work on language and speech problems relevant to Balto, including information extraction, conversational understanding, and audio processing.
- Experiment with model architectures and open-weight models, balancing accuracy, latency, resource usage, and cost.
- Help deploy and maintain models in collaboration with the team.

Helpful, not required

- Kubernetes (K8s).
- MLOps, including reproducible experiments, model versioning, deployment pipelines, and monitoring.
- Deploying and serving models with vLLM or other model-serving frameworks.
- Optimizing model inference for latency, throughput, or memory usage.
