Claims Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Claims Specialist to investigate, document, and resolve freight-related claims from intake through final settlement.

This position requires specific experience handling claims involving produce and other perishable products transported through air freight and ocean containers. The Claims Specialist will work closely with carriers, customers, freight forwarders, Logistics, and Accounting to determine responsibility, support claims with complete documentation, negotiate settlements, and recover financial losses.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage freight claims from initial notification through resolution and settlement.
- Investigate claims involving cargo damage, shortages, loss, temperature deviations, rejected produce, delays, and other transportation issues.
- Handle claims associated with produce and perishable shipments transported by air freight and ocean containers.
- Gather and review PODs, BOLs, air waybills, commercial invoices, packing lists, inspection reports, temperature records, photos, and carrier communications.
- Verify shipment details, claim amounts, customer information, carrier responsibility, and filing deadlines.
- Coordinate with carriers, customers, freight forwarders, Logistics, Accounting, and internal teams to obtain missing information and resolve claims.
- Review carrier responses and negotiate settlements,



reimbursements, or billing adjustments.
- Maintain accurate claim records, supporting documentation, status updates, and settlement information.
- Monitor open claims and follow up proactively to avoid delays or missed deadlines.
- Analyze claims data to identify recurring causes, temperature issues, carrier-performance concerns, and documentation gaps.
- Prepare reports for management covering claim value, recovery amounts, aging, status, and trends.
- Recommend process improvements to reduce future losses and strengthen claims documentation.

Qualifications

- At least one year of experience in cargo claims, freight claims, logistics, transportation, freight forwarding, or a related field.
- Direct experience handling claims involving produce or other perishable products.
- Experience with claims associated with air freight and ocean containers.
- Understanding of freight and claims documentation, including PODs, BOLs, air waybills, invoices, inspection records, photos, and temperature reports.
- Strong investigation, documentation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple claims and deadlines.
- Professional English and Spanish communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel
