About the Role
Position Title: Body in White (BIW) Underbody Design and Release Engineer (DRE) Work Model: Hybrid Primary

Location:
Mexico City / Toluca Metropolitan Area, Mexico The BIW Underbody Design and Release Engineer leads the complete engineering lifecycle for structural vehicle underbody assemblies, including floor pans, front/rear rails, crossmembers, side sills, and shock towers. In this role, you will hold full single point accountability for component design, integration, manufacturing feasibility, validation, and official production release from early architecture development through vehicle launch. You will partner with Vehicle Architecture, Safety/Crashworthiness, Manufacturing Engineering, Stamping/Welding Plants, Quality, and Tier 1 stamping and assembly suppliers to ensure structural underbody systems achieve aggressive performance targets for crash, NVH, durability, payload, vehicle mass, and total delivered cost. Responsibilities
• Structural Design and Release Management
• Lead the end to end design, geometry creation, packaging, and release of complex stamped, cast, and hydroformed underbody structural components.
• Manage complex vehicle Bill of Materials (BOM), track variant configurations, and execute engineering change management within corporate Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platforms.
• Apply advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;) and perform 3D tolerance stack up analyses to guarantee proper fitup during bodyshop assembly.
• Perform root cause investigations (utilizing 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone methodologies) for structural design, clearance, or build issues during prototype and pre-production builds.
• Crash, Validation, and Quality Integration
• Collaborate directly with CAE teams to optimize sheet metal gauges, material grades, seam weld placement, and structural adhesive layouts to satisfy general safety (NCAP, IIHS) and rollover standards.
• Author, execute, and approve Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R;) for physical crash testing, full vehicle durability, and bench testing.
• Formulate and maintain Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) documentation,

establishing critical characteristics tied directly to supplier key control characteristics (KCCs).
• Manufacturing Feasibility and Supplier Leadership
• Work alongside Stamping Engineering and Tooling Design teams to evaluate formability, springback, draw depth, and weld access (DFM/DFA).
• Lead design reviews with Tier 1 metal stamping, casting, and joined sub-assembly suppliers, overseeing prototype tooling schedules and production tool readiness.
• Support stamping plants and body assembly plants during prototype builds, pilot runs, and ramp-up (Job 1) to resolve fit, finish, and structural joining discrepancies.
• Identify and implement Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) proposals to reduce weight and material usage while maintaining structural stiffness.
• Location and Work Arrangement This position operates under a hybrid working arrangement. Candidates must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to the Mexico City / Toluca metropolitan area to accommodate regular on site responsibilities at engineering headquarters and manufacturing operations. Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of direct engineering experience as a Design and Release Engineer specifically within BIW structures, with focused expertise in underbody, floor pan, or structural rail commodities.
• Proven track record in automotive product release processes, including full ownership of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, DVP&R;, and engineering change notices.
• Deep practical knowledge of sheet metal forming, high strength steels (AHSS/UHSS), aluminum stampings, structural castings, spot welding, MIG welding, structural adhesives,

and mechanical fasteners.
• Demonstrated experience using automotive CAD and PLM tools (NX/Teamcenter or Enovia/CATIA) for vehicle packaging and surface modeling.
• Advanced spoken and written professional communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Willingness to travel to stamping facilities, assembly plants, and supplier plants during prototype phase and launch execution. Required Skills
