About the Role
Position Title: Body in White (BIW) Structures Design and Release Engineer (DRE) Work Model: Hybrid Primary

Location:
Mexico City / Toluca Metropolitan Area, Mexico The BIW Structures Design and Release Engineer leads the design, technical development, integration, validation, and official production release of structural vehicle body components and assemblies. In this role, you will hold complete component ownership across upper body, side structure, underbody, or structural closures, managing parts from early architectural concept phases through prototype builds and full vehicle launch. You will work closely with cross functional teams including Vehicle Architecture, Safety and Crashworthiness, Manufacturing Engineering, Body Assembly Plants, Quality, and Tier 1 metal suppliers to ensure structural hardware meets aggressive functional targets for strength, durability, crash performance, NVH, mass, and overall cost. Responsibilities
• Own component lifetime management for BIW structural hardware including pillars, sills, crossmembers, roof structures, and reinforcements.
• Create and manage complex vehicle Bill of Materials (BOM), engineering change requests, and official part releases within corporate Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;) principles, conduct 3D tolerance stack up analyses, and review CAD models using NX or CATIA to guarantee full packaging and bodyshop integration.
• Lead root cause analysis (utilizing 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone methodologies) for structural design, clearance, or build issues during prototype builds and launch execution.
• Partner with CAE analysis teams to review finite element results (stress, modal, crashworthiness, and fatigue) to optimize sheet metal gauges, material grades, and joining layouts prior to tooling commitment.
• Author, execute,

and approve Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R;) to ensure structural systems satisfy integral crash safety, roof strength, and payload standards.
• Develop and maintain Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) documents, establishing critical engineering parameters linked to supplier and assembly plant quality controls.
• Collaborate with Stamping Engineering and Tooling Design teams to evaluate sheet metal formability, springback, draw limits, and welding access (DFM/DFA).
• Serve as the primary technical interface to Tier 1 metal stamping, casting, and joined sub-assembly suppliers, reviewing prototype tooling and production readiness.
• Provide on site engineering support at body assembly plants during prototype builds, pilot runs, and launch phases (Job 1) to address fit, finish, and structural joining issues.
• Drive Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to deliver mass and cost efficiencies without sacrificing vehicle structural integrity. Required Skills
• Between 3 and 5 years of direct engineering experience as a Design and Release Engineer specifically focused on BIW structural commodities and sheet metal assemblies.
• Strong background in automotive product development processes, including APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, DVP&R;, and engineering change management.

• Advanced proficiency and practical expertise using Siemens NX for 3D parametric modeling/surfacing and Teamcenter for engineering data management and release.
• Direct experience supporting launch execution and resolution of structural build issues inside high volume automotive manufacturing facilities.
• Practical understanding of GD&T; ASME Y14.5 standards, datum scheme definitions, and bodyshop gauging strategies.
• Basic familiarity with structural crashworthiness requirements and non-linear FEM analysis interpretation.
•
• Solid practical understanding of metal stamping processes, high strength steels (AHSS/UHSS), aluminum alloys, structural castings, spot welding, MIG welding, and structural adhesives.
• Hands on experience with automotive CAD and PLM environments (NX/Teamcenter or Enovia/CATIA) for packaging, surface modeling, and release.
• Advanced spoken and written professional communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Willingness to travel periodically to stamping facilities, body assembly plants, and supplier operations. Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Direct experience supporting launch execution and resolution of structural build issues inside high volume automotive manufacturing facilities.
• Practical understanding of GD&T; ASME Y14.5 standards, datum scheme definitions, and bodyshop gauging strategies.
• Basic familiarity with structural crashworthiness requirements and non-linear FEM analysis interpretation. Location and Work Arrangement This position operates under a hybrid working arrangement. Candidates must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to the Mexico City / Toluca metropolitan area to facilitate regular on site presence at corporate engineering offices and manufacturing facilities.
