Mercanto is building the AI-powered procurement backbone for foodservice in Spanish-speaking Latin America, a $100bn market. Our asset-light marketplace allows restaurants, bars, hotels, and other foodservice businesses to buy from dozens of suppliers and 6,000+ SKUs through a single order, payment, credit line, and point of contact.

By consolidating procurement, payments, supplier relationships, and transaction data into one platform, Mercanto helps customers buy more reliably, compare pricing, simplify operations, and manage working capital more intelligently. At the same time, our proprietary data layer creates the foundation for better pricing, underwriting, fulfillment, and customer experience.

As we scale, credit is becoming one of Mercanto’s most important growth levers. Used well, it helps customers buy more consistently, deepens our relationship with them, builds supplier trust, and allows Mercanto to grow quickly while maintaining discipline.

About the role

We’re looking for our first Head of Credit to build and lead Mercanto’s credit function.

You will own Mercanto’s credit policy, underwriting process, credit limits, portfolio health, weekly credit review, collections discipline, cash exposure, and roadmap toward automated credit decisioning. This is a highly operational role: you will be expected to make real credit decisions,



build practical processes from scratch, and create the systems that allow Mercanto to extend credit responsibly at scale.

You will work closely with the leadership team, Product, Finance, Sales, Operations, and external data, payments, and collections partners to build a financial product that is deeply embedded into Mercanto’s procurement marketplace.

What we’re looking for

- 4+ years of experience in credit, underwriting, collections, lending, fintech, B2B payments, trade finance, receivables management, or financial operations
- Demonstrated ownership or management of a credit portfolio
- Strong command of core finance, credit, underwriting, collections, and risk concepts
- Understanding of credit in Mexico, including small-business underwriting, SAT/facturación data, bank statements, open-finance data, or local collections practices
- Ability to balance growth and risk: using credit to deepen customer relationships while protecting the company’s cash and portfolio health
- A practical, data-driven mindset and excitement about using automation and AI tools to build better underwriting models, workflows, and internal processes
- Strong communication skills in English and Spanish
