About the Company

Firecrawl provides an API that turns web pages into clean, LLM-ready Markdown or structured data for AI agents and applications. The company builds infrastructure that helps developers and AI companies collect and use web data. Firecrawl reports reaching eight figures in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in its first year and more than doubling that figure in its second year.

About the Role

Firecrawl is looking for a Backend Infrastructure Engineer to build and maintain the systems behind reliable, large-scale web data collection. The work focuses on backend infrastructure, networking, proxy management, throughput, and reliability in an environment where websites may actively block automated data collection.

You’ll take ownership of production systems, investigate difficult failures across the stack, and improve performance under heavy and unpredictable workloads. This position suits an engineer who enjoys hands-on systems work, can make decisions independently, and is comfortable maintaining services in production.

Key Responsibilities

- Build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that supports reliable web data collection at scale.
- Improve data collection success rates when websites use aggressive defenses against automated access.
- Manage the health, rotation, and cost efficiency of the proxy layer.
- Improve system throughput and reliability under heavy, variable, and unpredictable workloads.
- Investigate intermittent failures across the infrastructure stack, identify their causes, and implement lasting fixes.
- Take end-to-end ownership of infrastructure systems, including their ongoing health and production reliability.
- Ship improvements, measure their results,

and iterate based on real-world performance.

Required Qualifications

- At least 3 years of experience in backend engineering, networking, or infrastructure engineering.
- Experience working with networking, proxy systems, or high-throughput backend systems.
- Ability to take ownership of systems from implementation through production operation and ongoing maintenance.
- Strong focus on system reliability and the ability to troubleshoot complex problems in challenging, adversarial environments.
- Comfort working with changing conditions, unclear problem boundaries, and production systems that require ongoing attention.
- Willingness to take production ownership and participate in the operational work needed to keep systems healthy.

Preferred Qualifications / Requirements The source does not specify a separate list of preferred qualifications. Experience with proxy infrastructure, networking systems, high-throughput services, and reliability improvements against difficult targets is particularly relevant to the work.

Salary & Benefits The annual salary range for U.S.-based employees in San Francisco is $200,000–$250,000, with compensation outside the United States adjusted according to the cost of living in the employee’s country. Equity of up to 0.05% is available.

- Paid time off,

with 15 days mandatory and additional time beyond 24 days available upon request, excluding holidays.
- 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents.
- A $100 monthly wellness stipend.
- Up to $1,000 per year for professional learning and development expenses.
- Three months of paid sabbatical after four years.
- Team offsites.

Additional benefits for U.S.-based full-time employees include medical, dental, and vision coverage, employer-paid short- and long-term disability and life insurance, optional supplemental insurance, telehealth, a 401(k) plan, adaptable spending accounts (FSAs), commuter benefits, and pet insurance. Medical, dental, and vision coverage is 100% for employees and 50% for spouses and children.

San Francisco-based employees also have access to office snacks and drinks, team lunches, ping pong, and a loaner electric bike for city transportation.

Employment type: Full-time.

Location: San Francisco, California, or remote within the Americas, covering UTC-3 to UTC-10.

Work authorization: Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States or an eligible remote-hire region. Visa sponsorship is not currently available.
