The Jefe de Logística (Logistics Manager/Head) is a senior role responsible for overseeing and optimizing the entire supply chain flow—from procurement and warehousing to transportation and final delivery. This position ensures that goods move efficiently, inventory is accurate, and costs are controlled while maintaining high service levels for internal and external customers.

Core Responsibilities

While specific duties vary by industry (e.g., manufacturing, retail, agroindustry, or waste management), the role typically encompasses the following key areas:

- Operational Management: Planning, coordinating, and supervising the inbound, storage, and outbound flows of merchandise. This includes overseeing warehouse operations (receiving, picking, dispatching) and managing transportation and distribution to ensure timely deliveries.
- Inventory & Stock Control: Monitoring stock levels to prevent shortages or overstock, ensuring traceability, and leading the generation of key performance indicators (KPIs) and management reports.
- Team Leadership: Directing, training, and motivating operational, administrative, and transport staff. The role involves optimizing task allocation and fostering a positive work environment.
- Cost & Budget Control: Managing the logistics budget, analyzing operational costs (such as transport and warehousing), and implementing cost-reduction initiatives without compromising service quality.
- Supplier & Vendor Management: Negotiating with transport providers and service suppliers,

monitoring their performance, and ensuring compliance with contracts and service level agreements.
- Strategic Planning & Improvement: Designing medium- and long-term logistics plans, analyzing data to identify bottlenecks, and driving continuous improvement through digitalization (e.g., ERP/WMS implementation) and process optimization.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensuring strict adherence to safety and hygiene regulations, labor laws, and specific industry standards (e.g., food safety in refrigerated environments or environmental regulations).

Typical Requirements

Employers generally seek candidates with the following profile:

- Education: A bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is standard.
- Experience: Typically requires 5 or more years of experience in logistics roles, often with previous supervisory or management experience. Some senior roles may require 10–15 years depending on the industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and advanced Excel is frequently required. Knowledge of Power BI, WMS, or other logistics software is highly valued.
- Key Competencies: Strong leadership, analytical thinking, problem-solving under pressure, negotiation skills, and results orientation.
