Sustainability Manager
Role Description
The Sustainability Manager delivers sustainability solutions as a member of a multi-disciplinary project team and will be full-time supporting a multi-year consulting project for a global investment management firm. This role will be focused on portfolio-wide GRESB and investor reporting frameworks, as well as helping guide the client through the increasingly complex regulatory environment in the US and Mexico.
This position is based in Mexico City but is expected to work flexibly within US Eastern time zone to accommodate general meetings. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated and accountable individual, capable of working independently.
In the role you will:
GRESB Strategy and Submissions
- As part of the broader team delivery strategy for the client, help lead end-to-end annual GRESB Real Estate Assessment submissions for client funds and assets, from data collection and scoring review through submission, results analysis and response to GRESB queries.
- Build and maintain multi-year strategic GRESB improvement plans that set score targets by fund, sequence actions by impact and cost, and link to asset-level business plans.
- Analyze GRESB results and peer benchmarks to find gaps in policy, data coverage, performance and certifications, then recommend targeted improvements.
- Facilitate the development, benchmarking and ongoing review of sustainability objectives, targets and improvement programs for assets and funds.
Reporting Frameworks and Regulatory Context
- Support client reporting to frameworks beyond GRESB, including ULI Greenprint, UN PRI, INREV, TCFD and SFDR as relevant to the account.
- Assist in aligning U.S. federal, state and local requirements,
such as NYC Local Law 97, other building performance standards, energy benchmarking ordinances and California climate disclosure laws (SB 253 and SB 261), with our advice to client asset and property management teams on application and impact to assets.
- Track Mexican requirements and market expectations, including the General Law on Climate Change and National Emissions Registry, federal energy efficiency standards (NOMs), the Mexican Sustainable Taxonomy and emerging ISSB-aligned disclosure, and explain how they affect Mexico assets.
- Operationalize protocols, processes and software so client reporting stays aligned with changing requirements.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead working-level client meetings with asset managers, property teams and sustainability coordinators to gather information for GRESB submissions and to guide improvement strategy.
- Build rapport with day-to-day client contacts, explain difficult or sensitive findings and build consensus on priorities. Support account leadership in senior client settings.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the client's portfolio, reporting requirements and program structure, and how CBRE services map to client needs.
- Translate GRESB and reporting findings into clear recommendations for asset management teams, investment committee briefs and capital planning,
and prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, serving as primary point person answering questions and providing nuanced answers for selected funds or regions.
Data, Quality and Project Delivery
- Manage assigned workstreams with minimal supervision, including delegating across team and managing quality control, to maintain on time, consistent delivery.
- Run quality control on data and deliverables. Review the work of analysts and senior analysts, provide feedback and coordinate daily team activities on workstreams managed.
- Use internal and third-party platforms, such as ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, Deepki and the GRESB Portal, to collect, validate and report data.
- Work with external consultants, engineers and software vendors to improve data coverage and quality and to protect reporting integrity.
