About the Role

Our client, a major retail chain, is seeking an experienced and strategic Gerente de Compras y Categoría to lead procurement efforts for specific product categories in Monterrey, Nuevo León . This senior role requires a deep understanding of market dynamics, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to develop and execute category strategies that drive profitable growth. You will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, optimizing product assortments, and ensuring competitive pricing and quality for your assigned categories.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement comprehensive category strategies to maximize sales, profitability, and market share.
- Identify and source new products and suppliers, ensuring alignment with brand positioning and customer needs.
- Conduct market analysis, competitor benchmarking, and trend forecasting to inform category decisions.
- Negotiate with suppliers to achieve optimal pricing, payment terms, and service levels.
- Manage the entire lifecycle of assigned product categories, from sourcing and assortment planning to promotional activities and inventory management.
- Collaborate with marketing, sales, and operations teams to develop effective go-to-market plans.
- Monitor category performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies,



ethical standards, and legal requirements in procurement activities.
- Lead and mentor a team of buyers and category specialists, fostering a high-performance culture.

Requirements

- Proven experience in category management, strategic sourcing, or high-level purchasing roles within the retail sector.
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing profitable category strategies.
- Exceptional negotiation, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
- In-depth knowledge of retail operations and consumer goods market.
- Excellent leadership and team management capabilities.
- Proficiency in relevant software and analytical tools (e.g., ERP systems, data analysis tools).
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment.
