About the Company
We’re hiring on behalf of a San Francisco–based early-stage hardware startup developing modular power plants that deliver both electricity and cooling from a single integrated system. Their platform combines supercritical CO₂ power conversion with thermally driven cooling and is designed to run on a range of fuel and heat sources. They build compact, factory-integrated systems for critical infrastructure, where reliable power, thermal management, and deployment speed matter. The Role You’ll own the electrical power conversion architecture connecting high-speed turbomachinery to useful electrical output. You’ll develop and integrate generator interfaces, drives, rectification, inversion, protection, and power conditioning, and help define operation from startup through load changes and safe shutdown. This role combines system architecture with hands-on hardware development and testing, working remotely from Mexico with the US engineering team. Responsibilities Define the electrical architecture from high-speed generator to customer electrical interface. Design or specify rectifiers, inverters, DC links, motor drives, filters, and power conditioning hardware. Develop motor–generator strategies for startup, acceleration, generation, load following, and controlled shutdown. Assess converter topologies and semiconductor choices, including IGBT and SiC-based solutions. Model switching behavior, electrical and thermal losses, efficiency, and power quality. Specify power modules, capacitors, magnetics, busbars, sensors, gate drivers, and protective components. Develop schematics,

single-line diagrams, interface specifications, and verification plans. Integrate electrical systems with supervisory controls, instrumentation, and machine protection. Evaluate grid-connected, islanded, and modular multi-unit configurations. Lead supplier technical reviews, hardware bring-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance testing. Requirements BS in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. 5+ years developing power electronics, electric drives, or power conversion equipment. Strong knowledge of converter topologies, power semiconductors (IGBT/SiC), gate drivers, magnetics, and DC-link design. Hands-on design experience with inverters, active rectifiers, motor drives, or industrial power conversion systems. Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, or equivalent simulation tools. Familiarity with thermal management, EMI/EMC, grounding, isolation, and electrical protection. Practical experience testing and troubleshooting real power electronics hardware on the bench. Advanced English: able to explain design decisions and hold your own in technical reviews with US engineers. Available full-time during US business hours, working remotely with a San Francisco–based team. Nice to Have High-speed permanent-magnet generators, starter-generators, and bidirectional drives. SiC-based high-power converters at hundreds-of-kilowatts to megawatt scale. Microgrids, grid-interactive inverters, or distributed generation. DSP, FPGA, or other embedded motor-control platforms. Experience with relevant IEEE, UL, and IEC power conversion requirements. Why Join You’ll help establish the engineering foundations of a new distributed energy platform. They’re looking for people who take ownership across disciplinary boundaries, move comfortably between analysis and hardware, and want to see their designs built, tested, and operating in the field.
