Position Summary We are seeking a proactive and detailed-oriented Mid-Level Wheels & Tires Design Release Engineer (DRE) to join our product development engineering group. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, release, validation, and product launch of automotive wheel and tire assemblies. Working remotely from Mexico, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams across North America and global Tier-1 suppliers to deliver high-quality, lightweight, structurally sound, and cost-effective wheel/tire solutions.

Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Product Release (Cradle-to-Grave)
• Lead the engineering development and engineering release for aluminum wheels, steel wheels, center caps, lug nuts/bolts, valves, and tires.
• Manage 3D CAD models, 2D engineering drawings, GD&T;, Bill of Materials (BOM), and Engineering Change Orders (ECO/ECR) within PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill).
• Ensure component designs comply with vehicle packaging constraints, suspension clearances, dynamic envelope specifications, and brake cooling requirements. 2. Performance, Validation & Quality
• Define design verification plans and reports (DVP&R;) for structural durability, impact performance, corrosion resistance, paint/finish quality, NVH, and tire rolling resistance.
• Work closely with CAE teams to evaluate Finite Element Analysis (FEA) results for radial fatigue, cornering fatigue, and curb impact simulations.
• Analyze root cause failures (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) during prototype testing, pre-production runs, and field warranty returns. 3. Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Act as the primary technical point of contact with Tier-1 wheel and tire suppliers, managing tooling feasibility, DFM (Design for Manufacturability),

and APQP/PPAP milestones.
• Partner with Styling/Design Studio to balance aesthetic wheel styling requirements with structural integrity and manufacturing limits.
• Coordinate with Vehicle Dynamics, Brake Systems, Crash/Safety, and Assembly Plant Operations to ensure smooth integration during vehicle launch. Required Qualifications & Skills
•

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field.
•

Experience:
3+ years of progressive engineering experience in automotive design release (DRE), specifically within Chassis, Wheels, Tires, or Structural Components.
• CAD & PLM: Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (CATIA V5/V6, NX, or Creo) and PLM platforms (Teamcenter, Windchill, or Enovia).
• Engineering Standards: Solid understanding of GD&T; (ASME Y14.5), DFMEA, DVP&R;, Core Tools (APQP, PPAP), and SAE/ISO testing standards for wheels and tires (e.g., SAE J2530, SAE J328, ISO 3006).
• Language: Advanced/Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken) for daily interaction with integral engineering teams. Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
• Hands-on experience with tire mechanics, uniformities, force & moment (F&M;) testing, or rolling resistance optimization.
• Prior experience working as a remote engineer in Mexico supporting US/OEM programs.
• Knowledge of wheel casting/forging manufacturing processes (Low-Pressure Die Casting, Flow Forming, Machining, Coating). Working Conditions & Remote Setup
•

Location:
100% Remote within Mexico.
• Travel: Minimal (up to 10–15% travel to manufacturing plants or supplier facilities as required during critical launch phases).
• Work Schedule: Standard business hours aligned with North American time zones (CST/EST).
