Location:
Remote from Mexico; qualified candidates elsewhere in Latin America may also be considered Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM Pacific Time Compensation: $2,000–$2,500 USD per month, based on experience Position Type: Full-Time Independent Contractor
About the Role
Meier Concrete is seeking an experienced Structural Concrete Estimator who can independently take a project from bid documents through a complete quantity takeoff, detailed pricing, and a clear proposal. We are a Southern California structural concrete subcontractor specializing in multifamily buildings, podium construction, parking structures, and commercial projects. Direct structural concrete estimating experience is required. General construction estimating, structural design, BIM modeling, or quantity takeoff experience alone will not satisfy this requirement. You must understand how concrete structures are built and translate that understanding into realistic labor, material, formwork, shoring, equipment, and subcontractor costs. You will work directly with our Chief Estimator, who has more than 40 years of concrete construction and estimating experience, and collaborate with our estimating, VDC, and operations teams. This position is performed remotely from Latin America. What You Will Do Complete Structural Concrete Estimates
• Perform detailed 2D quantity takeoffs from PDF drawings using Bluebeam Revu.
• Develop estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, formwork, shoring, and subcontracted scopes.
• Estimate foundations, footings, grade beams, pile caps, and slabs-on-grade.
• Estimate elevated and suspended slabs, shear walls, columns, beams, and other vertical concrete elements.
• Review reinforcing steel and post-tensioning requirements and incorporate applicable supplier or subcontractor pricing.
• Build and check pricing in Microsoft Excel, using appropriate production rates and documented assumptions. Evaluate Constructability and Scope
• Review and coordinate structural, architectural, civil, MEP, and shoring drawings.
• Evaluate forming systems, shoring and reshoring, pour sequencing,
crew sizes, productivity, access, pumping, cranes, and equipment requirements.
• Identify scope gaps, drawing conflicts, trade interfaces, constructability concerns, and potential cost exposure.
• Prepare pre-bid RFIs and maintain clear estimating assumptions.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Prepare proposal scopes, clarifications, inclusions, and exclusions. Communicate with Clients and Manage Bids
• Respond directly to General Contractor and client emails and phone calls in English.
• Explain estimate scope, quantities, assumptions, pricing, and exclusions clearly and professionally.
• Participate in pre-bid discussions and post-bid scope-review calls.
• Track revisions and addenda, update estimates, and communicate changes.
• Manage multiple active estimates and meet established submission deadlines. Depending on project size and complexity, you should be capable of completing approximately 2–5 bids per month, including both quantity takeoff and pricing. Required Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience independently estimating structural concrete construction.
• Experience pricing suspended slabs, foundations, shear walls, and columns.
• Strong understanding of concrete construction means and methods, including formwork, shoring, sequencing, manpower, equipment, and production.
• Strong 2D takeoff skills using Bluebeam Revu or comparable PDF takeoff software, with the ability to work in Bluebeam Revu.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills for detailed estimating and pricing.
• Ability to read and coordinate drawings and specifications across multiple disciplines.
• Ability to prepare complete estimates and proposals, rather than quantities alone.
• Strong English reading, writing,
speaking, and listening skills. C1 proficiency or equivalent professional fluency is strongly preferred.
• Ability to independently handle technical client emails, phone calls, and scope-review discussions in English.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and ownership of bid deadlines.
• Availability to work full-time during 7:00 AM–4:00 PM Pacific Time. Highly Preferred Experience
• Structural concrete estimating for U.
S. contractors.
• Multifamily buildings, podiums, and parking structures.
• Post-tensioned concrete.
• Familiarity with California construction practices.
• ACC.
• Revit/BIM or model-based quantity takeoffs. Our Estimating Workflow Our current workflow is primarily based on 2D PDF takeoffs and Excel-based pricing. Our internal VDC team develops structural concrete models in Revit. As those capabilities expand, we intend to progressively incorporate model-based quantities into estimating. Revit/BIM experience is preferred, but it is not required. Our priority is finding an experienced structural concrete estimator who can contribute to our current workflow and is interested in developing with the team. What Success Looks Like You can review a concrete project, determine how it will be built, identify missing information, and prepare a complete, traceable estimate. You can explain your pricing and scope to our Chief Estimator and to a General Contractor. You ask clear questions, communicate issues early, and take responsibility for accuracy and deadlines. We provide onboarding to Meier’s templates, standards, and processes. Candidates should already have the core technical skills to estimate structural concrete independently.
