About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mid-Level Closures Stamped Doors Design Release Engineer (DRE) to lead the engineering design, development, integration, and release of stamped door assemblies (inner and outer panels, reinforcements, and hinges). In this role, you will bridge styling requirements, manufacturing feasibility, and vehicle performance targets, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, Tier-1 suppliers, and stamping/assembly plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design, packaging, and engineering release of stamped door inner/outer panels, side-impact beams, hinge reinforcements, and structural door assemblies.
• Perform component packaging, 3D CAD modeling, 2D drawing creation, and engineering release management within product lifecycle management (PLM) databases.
• Collaborate with Body-in-White (BIW), styling, sealing, latching, mechanism, and crashworthiness teams to ensure optimal door fit, finish, structural stiffness, and occupant safety.
• Interface with stamping suppliers and toolmakers to conduct formability reviews, die feasibility evaluations, surface quality assessments, and prototype builds.
• Support root-cause analysis for door fitment, gap and flush issues, panel oil-canning, distortion, and welding/joining concerns during prototype and production launch phases.
• Oversee component testing, physical validation,
and execution of Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R;) activities. Minimum Requirements
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on engineering experience in automotive stamped closures, sheet metal door inner/outer assemblies, or BIW stamped components.
• Residence in or willingness to relocate to Mexico City, Toluca, or adjacent regions within Estado de México.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Automotive, Mechatronics, Industrial, or related technical field).
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (CATIA V5/V6 or NX) and engineering data management within PLM environments (Teamcenter or Windchill).
• Deep understanding of sheet metal stamping processes, aluminum/steel grade selection, die feasibility, hem flange design, and joining methods (spot welding, laser welding, structural adhesives).
• Practical application of GD&T;, datum schemes, tolerance stack-up analysis, DFMEA, and DVP&R; protocols.
• Professional working proficiency in both English and Spanish (written and verbal). Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering specializing in Mechanical, Automotive, Materials, Manufacturing, or Metallurgical Engineering.
• Relevant industry certifications in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Project Management.
• Direct OEM or Tier-1 stamping supplier experience within the Mexican automotive market.
• Practical plant launch support experience, including dimensional tuning (CMM data analysis) and door line assembly optimization.
