A leading integral financial services organisation is seeking a hands-on Network Security Specialist to support a high-impact firewall governance and remediation programme. You will help reduce audit findings, improve firewall rule hygiene, and strengthen compliance and operational resilience in a large, complex banking environment.

About the project The team is managing a growing backlog of firewall rule-base audits and clean-up activities, driven by audit findings, rule-set optimisation requirements, and the accumulation of changes over time. As part of the Firewall Rules Enhancements project, you will help execute remediation work, improve documentation and evidence quality, and support the rollout of AI-assisted automation to make reviews more scalable.

What you’ll do

- Review and analyse firewall rule bases to identify security risks, compliance gaps, redundant or unused rules, and optimisation opportunities.
- Support firewall governance activities, including rule reviews, recertifications, clean-up initiatives, and rule-set optimisation.
- Manage audit remediation activities end to end: evidence collection, documentation, issue tracking, stakeholder follow-up, and action-item closure.
- Work with audit, risk, compliance, infrastructure, and application teams to understand access requirements and drive remediation to completion.
- Maintain accurate records of firewall rules, changes, approvals, and supporting evidence.
- Help track and report progress against audit findings, remediation deadlines, and rule-hygiene targets.




- Contribute to the development and adoption of AI-assisted automation to accelerate firewall reviews and improve scalability.
- Escalate blockers, risks, and dependencies in a timely and structured way.

What you’ll bring

- 3+ years of experience in Network Security, with a strong focus on firewall governance, operations, and remediation.
- Hands-on experience managing and reviewing firewall rule bases, ideally across platforms such as Palo Alto, Check Point, Cisco ASA/Firepower, or Fortinet.
- Strong understanding of network security controls, firewall policies, rule lifecycle management, and access governance.
- Experience supporting audit remediation, including evidence collection, documentation, issue tracking, and action closure.
- Proven ability to perform firewall rule reviews, recertifications, clean-up initiatives, and rule-set optimisation.
- Ability to analyse firewall rules for compliance, security risk, and operational effectiveness.
- Experience working with regulatory, audit, risk, and compliance teams to meet remediation deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify remediation opportunities and drive them through to closure.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Experience using ticketing and tracking platforms such as ServiceNow or Jira.
- Excellent organisational, documentation, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice to have
- Knowledge of automation, scripting, or AI-assisted security operations.
- Experience in a regulated financial-services environment.
- Familiarity with network segmentation, secure access principles, and firewall change-management processes.
- Experience contributing to governance forums, metrics, or management reporting.
