Backend engineer with Rust and Go experience

Key Responsibilities

- Core Production Backend Development: Design, write, and test a robust, highly reliable backend component for Google Artifact Registry (AR) supporting Rust and Cargo package standards.
- Feature Implementation: Build Standard, Remote (Default, Custom, Internal, Authenticated), and Virtual modes. Implement supporting capabilities including copy operations, download rules, ingestion attestations, fingerprints, and security verification gating (Promote/Verify).
- Internal Security Pipeline Integration: Integrate Rust artifact support into Google’s secure ingestion pipelines and internal tooling (such as Google Cloud Build) for security scanning, threat quarantine, and SLSA provenance/authenticity verification.
- Quality & Testing: Deliver comprehensive unit tests (target 90%+ coverage), critical user journey tests (100% target), technical documentation, and maintain high Changelist (CL) quality.
- Ownership & Reliability: Take end-to-end ownership from design to production rollout, ensuring high service availability and avoiding regression or service outages in live Google Cloud infrastructure.

Required Qualifications & Experience

8+ years of professional backend engineering experience High comfort navigating ambiguous requirements in large-scale backend systems.
- Rust & Cargo Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of Rust language ecosystems, Cargo package manager operations, and artifact repository standards.
- Language Proficiency:
- Strong proficiency in Rust (domain experience).
- Professional experience in Go and/or Java (or proven ability to quickly pick up Go/Java if experienced in C/C++).
- Backend Systems & Scale: Experience building, scaling, and maintaining high-availability, mission-critical distributed systems or cloud services.
- Testing & Quality Assurance: Strong dedication to automated unit testing, integration testing, and CI/CD best practices.
- Experience with artifact management platforms, package registry protocols, or container registries.
- Background in supply chain security, attestation frameworks (e.g., SLSA provenance), or automated vulnerability scanning tools.
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services (e.g., Artifact Registry, Cloud Run, Cloud Build, GKE).
