Position Summary The Cost Expert Engineer develops accurate, data-driven cost models for purchased components and tooling, enabling informed sourcing decisions and supporting product development from concept through supplier nomination. This role partners closely with Engineering, Purchasing, Suppliers, and Sales to identify cost optimization opportunities and improve cost transparency throughout the product lifecycle.

Required Qualifications & Technical Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline; equivalent technical education and experience will also be considered.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, GD&T;, material specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, stamping, machining, extrusion, bending, and assembly operations.
- Experience developing product and tooling cost models using cost estimation software and industry-standard costing methodologies.
- Knowledge of cost breakdown structures, manufacturing cost drivers, and should-cost analysis techniques.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate design, process, and material impacts on cost.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain technical cost analyses to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.




- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with CAD software, ERP systems, Power BI, or similar analytical tools is preferred.
- Collaborative, detail-oriented, and customer-focused with a continuous improvement mindset.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop auditable should-cost models and target cost analyses for components and tooling during product development and sourcing activities.
- Analyze manufacturing processes, materials, labor, tooling, and overhead to identify key cost drivers and cost-saving opportunities.
- Partner with Engineering and Purchasing to evaluate design alternatives, manufacturing methods, and supplier proposals.
- Support supplier negotiations through data-driven cost analyses, cost workshops, and benchmarking activities.
- Implement and maintain standardized costing methodologies with strategic suppliers.
- Communicate costing results and recommendations to Purchasing, Engineering, Program Management, and Sales to support sourcing decisions and customer quotations.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction through product design changes, specification optimization, manufacturing process improvements, and supply chain efficiencies.
- Maintain accurate cost databases, assumptions, and documentation to ensure consistency and auditability.
