Position Summary

The Principal Engineer serves as a senior technical leader responsible for driving architectural excellence, engineering best practices, and technology modernization initiatives across platforms. This role provides hands-on leadership throughout the entire software development lifecycle, from solution design and architecture definition to implementation, deployment, optimization, and operational support.

The adecuado candidate possesses deep expertise in API architecture, cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure, backend development using .NET technologies, and modern front-end development using Vue.js and/or React. They will play a critical role in supporting and evolving web applications, leading refactoring initiatives, reducing technical debt, improving system reliability, and ensuring scalable, maintainable, and secure software solutions.

This position requires strong experience designing and supporting enterprise-grade cloud solutions leveraging Azure services including Azure Functions, Storage Accounts, Azure Service Bus, Azure DevOps, CI/CD Pipelines, SQL Managed Instance, Azure AI Search, Key Vault, Application Insights, and Azure Monitor. The Principal Engineer will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to define technical strategies, establish architectural standards, and guide development teams in delivering high-quality solutions.

Additionally, the role is expected to champion modern software engineering practices, including test-driven development (TDD), data architecture and database design principles, business intelligence and analytics platforms such as Snowflake, and the practical adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows to improve engineering productivity and software quality.

The successful candidate combines strategic architectural thinking with a hands-on approach, serving as a technical mentor and trusted advisor while actively contributing to the design, development, support, and continuous improvement of technology ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture Leadership & Strategy

- Define and drive the technical architecture roadmap for the platform, ensuring scalability, security, maintainability, and long-term sustainability.
- Establish architectural standards, design principles, and engineering best practices across applications, API, data, and cloud domains.
- Lead architecture reviews and technical design sessions for new features, enhancements, integrations, and modernization initiatives.
- Identify, prioritize, and drive technical debt remediation and application refactoring efforts to improve system quality and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, promoting high-quality engineering practices and architectural consistency.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry trends to continuously improve the organization's technology landscape.
- Ensure solutions align with security, compliance, performance, and reliability requirements.

Application Development (API, Backend & Frontend)

API Architecture & Development

- Design and govern RESTful and event-driven APIs that support scalable, secure, and high-performing integrations.
- Define API standards, versioning strategies, authentication mechanisms, and governance processes.
- Lead the design of integration patterns between internal systems, third-party platforms, and cloud services.
- Ensure APIs are properly documented, monitored, tested, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.

Backend Development (.NET)

- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade backend solutions using modern .NET technologies and frameworks.
- Establish coding standards, development guidelines, and quality controls to ensure maintainable and high-quality codebases.
- Implement and promote Test-Driven Development (TDD) and automated testing practices.
- Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
- Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to development teams.

Frontend Development (Vue.js / React)

- Lead the architecture and development of modern, responsive, and user-friendly web applications using Vue.js and/or React.
- Define frontend architecture patterns, component strategies, state management approaches, and performance optimization techniques.
- Ensure consistency in user experience, accessibility, maintainability, and application responsiveness.
- Collaborate with UX/UI teams to deliver intuitive and scalable user interfaces.

AI Enablement & Engineering Productivity





- Champion the adoption of AI-assisted development tools and practices to improve software quality, development velocity, and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate and implement AI solutions that support code generation, testing, documentation, code review, troubleshooting, and knowledge management activities.
- Establish governance and best practices for responsible and secure use of AI technologies within the software development lifecycle.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI capabilities within applications and business processes to create measurable business value.
- Mentor engineering teams on effective utilization of AI-powered development workflows and tools.

Cloud Platform & DevOps (Microsoft Azure)

- Architect, implement, and support cloud-native solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure services and best practices.
- Design and maintain solutions utilizing Azure Functions, Storage Accounts (Blob, Queue, Table, Files), Azure Service Bus, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure AI Search, Key Vault, Application Insights, and related services.
- Design and support asynchronous messaging and integration using Azure Service Bus (queues, topics/subscriptions, sessions, dead-letter handling, and retry policies).
- Lead cloud modernization and optimization initiatives focused on scalability, performance, security, resilience, and cost efficiency.
- Define and implement CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and DevOps best practices using Azure DevOps.
- Establish monitoring, observability, alerting, and incident response strategies to ensure platform reliability and operational excellence.
- Implement end-to-end monitoring using Application Insights, Azure Monitor, and Log Analytics, including telemetry, distributed tracing, dashboards, and alert rules across applications, Functions, Service Bus, and Storage.
- Monitor database health and performance for Azure SQL / SQL Managed Instance using Query Store, Azure SQL monitoring, and diagnostic metrics, proactively resolving bottlenecks and capacity issues.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and development teams to maintain a secure and compliant cloud environment.
- Drive cloud governance initiatives, including resource management, cost optimization, security controls, and operational standards.

Data & Analytics Architecture

- Design and oversee data architecture solutions supporting operational and analytical workloads.
- Define data integration, modeling, and governance standards across SQL Server, Snowflake, and other data platforms.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain T-SQL stored procedures, views, functions, and indexing strategies supporting application, integration, and reporting workloads.
- Design and build data extraction and integration processes (ETL/ELT) to move and transform data across SQL Server, Azure Storage, Snowflake, and third-party sources.
- Ensure data solutions are scalable, performant, secure, and aligned with business reporting and analytics requirements.
- Collaborate with business and analytics teams to support data-driven decision-making initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Education

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.

Experience

- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on enterprise web application development.
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing software architectures for large-scale, distributed, and cloud-based applications.
- Proven experience serving as a Principal Engineer, Lead Engineer, Solution Architect, Software Architect, or similar senior technical leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience leading application modernization, refactoring initiatives, and technical debt reduction programs.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Experience supporting production systems and driving operational excellence in cloud environments.

Technical Expertise

Architecture & Software Design

- Deep understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, domain-driven design (DDD), microservices, and API-first design.

API Architecture
