About the role

We are looking for a detail-oriented Job Costing Accountant to track and report the true cost of every project we build. You will own job cost accuracy from estimate to closeout, keep our general books clean in QuickBooks, and help project managers understand where each job stands financially.

This is a fully remote, full-time position. You will work closely with our project management and operations teams, and you will learn and use Buildertrend, our construction management software, alongside QuickBooks.

Key responsibilities

Job costing

- Set up new jobs, cost codes and budgets from approved estimates and contracts
- Code vendor bills, subcontractor invoices, payroll and materials to the correct job and cost code
- Track committed costs, purchase orders and change orders against budget
- Prepare job cost reports showing budget vs. vigente, cost to complete and projected margin
- Flag cost overruns and variances to project managers early, and help explain the cause
- Reconcile job costs between Buildertrend and QuickBooks so both systems match
- Support progress billing, draw requests and retainage tracking
- Close out completed jobs and prepare final job profitability reviews

General business accounting

- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Reconcile bank, credit card and loan accounts monthly
- Record journal entries, accruals and adjustments
- Support month-end and year-end close, including WIP (work-in-progress) schedules
- Track subcontractor compliance documents such as W-9s, certificates of insurance and lien waivers
- Prepare 1099s and assist with sales tax and other filings as needed
- Work with our outside CPA on tax preparation and year-end adjustments

Systems and process





- Learn Buildertrend and use it daily for budgets, purchase orders, bills and change orders
- Maintain the QuickBooks–Buildertrend integration and resolve sync errors
- Suggest and document improvements to our job costing workflows

Required qualifications

- 3+ years of experience in job costing and general business accounting
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks (Online or Desktop)
- Willingness to learn Buildertrend and adopt new software quickly
- Proficiency in English, written and spoken, for clear communication with project managers, vendors and leadership
- Solid understanding of accrual accounting, reconciliations and month-end close
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage many active jobs at once
- Self-motivated and organized, with a track record of meeting deadlines while working independently

Preferred qualifications

- Experience in construction, home building, remodeling or another project-based industry
- Prior hands-on experience with Buildertrend or similar software (Procore, CoConstruct, JobTread)
- Familiarity with WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue and retainage
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field
- QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification

- Availability during core business hours, [time zone, e.g. 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Central]
- Comfort with video calls, shared drives and team messaging tools
- Ability to keep financial data secure, including using company-approved devices and password practices

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $375,000.00 - $460,000.00 per year
