The Role
Mechanical Design Engineer – Engineering Department. This role is responsible for leading the mechanical design and development of advanced energy storage systems for electric and hybrid vehicles, ensuring innovation, quality, manufacturability, and compliance with OEM and aftermarket requirements.
What You’ll Do (Impact Areas)
• Design and coordinate product development of advanced energy storage systems focused on automotive electrification technologies.
• Oversee the design and development of mechanical components and sub-systems of lithium-ion batteries in collaboration with electrical, systems, software, and manufacturing teams.
• Design multiple complex mechanical components using SolidWorks, including molded plastic, metal, and structural parts for high-volume production.
• Prepare and review packaging studies for new product development and customer vehicle integration.
• Lead or conduct FEA and CFD analysis, validation testing, and results interpretation in areas such as vibration durability, mechanical shock, crashworthiness, and structural engineering.
• Perform tolerance stack-ups and apply GD&T; principles; provide coaching to other engineers.
• Implement design for manufacturability (DFM) and sustainable lifecycle design to ensure ease of handling from production through disassembly and recycling.
• Prepare technical documentation including DFMEAs, evaluations, test requests, and reports, and contribute to validation plans (DVP&R;).
• Collaborate with suppliers to resolve technical issues and optimize component sourcing.
• Lead cost reduction initiatives and support product quality through APQP.
What Success Looks Like
