About Supply Chain Resources Group (SCRG)
Supply Chain Resources Group (SCRG) is the execution partner for the world's most innovative hardware companies. We help everyone from the biggest tech companies to the most promising start-ups design, implement, and manage their product manufacturing supply chain. SCRG provides manufacturing and supply chain advisory services, vendor management services, and highly skilled technical resources in the world's major manufacturing centers.
From prototypes and early-stage New Product Introduction (NPI) to full high volume mass production, our teams bring speed, clarity, and control to complex global supply chains.
Role Overview
As a Global Supply Manager (GSM) for Mechanicals, you will advise and assist our clients—ranging from industry-leading OEMs to fast-growing hardware startups—with end-to-end commercial and strategic relationships with general mechanical suppliers. You will serve as the commercial leader for the mechanical commodity, responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and scaling precision custom mechanical parts and their tooling, including mechanical and electromechanical sub-assemblies, injection-molded parts, CNC-machined components, die castings, metal extrusions, precision metal stamping and forming, composites, and fasteners.
You will bridge the gap between our client's hardware engineering teams and the global supply base, ensuring that custom mechanical components meet rigorous targets for cost, quality, and delivery. You will also help clients build and improve the sourcing processes and tools that support their supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Commodity Strategy & Roadmaps: Develop clear technology and commodity roadmaps for current and future programs. Monitor market conditions and supplier technology roadmaps, and identify supply and demand challenges and opportunities.
- Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Selection: Identify, evaluate, and onboard global suppliers with the right technologies and capabilities. Own the RFI/RFP/RFQ process, review, and business award decisions, ensuring all commercial terms are agreed and documented, and execute supplier capability audits alongside engineering and quality teams.
- Cost Management & Negotiation: Develop bottom-up "should-cost" models for custom mechanical parts and tooling. Analyze current spend,
consolidate volume across the supply base to create leverage, develop sourcing alternatives, and negotiate pricing, Master Supply Agreements (MSAs), Statements of Work (SOWs), and supplier terms to drive cost reductions throughout the product lifecycle.
- New Product Introduction (NPI) & Early Supplier Involvement: Serve as the liaison between supply chain and engineering for supplier and component selection during NPI and sustaining projects. Facilitate Early Supplier Involvement (ESI) during the DFM (Design for Manufacturing) phase to align part design, materials, and surface finishes with supplier capabilities and cost targets.
- Tooling, Capacity & Risk Management: Manage custom tooling investments, tooling unit cost targets, and tooling and supplier capacity. Maintain commodity consumption forecasts and execution plans, and develop dual-sourcing strategies to mitigate geopolitical and supply chain risks.
- Supplier Performance Management: Define and manage supplier performance metrics for technology, quality, supply, and cost. Conduct regular Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), drive continuous improvement in yield, cycle time, and on-time delivery (OTD), and lead dispute resolution when needed.
- Financial Planning Support: Work with client finance teams during monthly close and financial planning cycles on component pricing, cost forecasts, and tooling investments.
- Cross-Functional Execution: Act as the primary liaison between the client OEM and the contract manufacturers/Tier-2 suppliers, resolving critical path escalations and ensuring smooth transitions from prototype builds (EVT/DVT) to Mass Production (MP).
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in global supply management, strategic sourcing, or procurement of custom mechanical components, within hardware, consumer electronics, robotics, aerospace, or related industries.
- Commodity Expertise:
Deep technical and commercial understanding of precision mechanical manufacturing processes, including injection molding and LSR molding, CNC machining, die casting, metal extrusion, precision metal stamping and forming, composites, fasteners, and mechanical and electromechanical sub-assemblies.
- Surface Treatments: Technical and commercial experience with surface treatments and coatings for plastics and metals, including corrosion-resistant, decorative, and RF-performance coatings.
- Commercial Acumen: Proven track record of directing complex negotiations, cost/price analysis, RFP/RFQ reviews, and business award processes; structuring supplier contracts, T&Cs;, MSAs, SOWs, and NDAs; managing multi-million-dollar spend portfolios; and negotiating capital expenditure (CapEx) for custom tooling.
- Tooling & Capacity: Experience with tooling capacity management, tooling unit cost targets, and supplier capacity management.
- Analytical Skills: Experience using should-cost models to set cost targets and negotiate pricing, and the ability to prepare and present quantitative and qualitative comparisons of sourcing alternatives.
- Global Execution: Extensive experience collaborating with contract manufacturers (CMs) and Tier-2 component suppliers across Greater China and other global manufacturing hubs.
- Professional Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, strong ethics and professionalism, and a detail- and team-oriented approach, with the flexibility to deliver in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Fluency in English and Spanish required to effectively interface between international clients and regional suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's in Engineering, Supply Chain Management or MBA)
- Experience developing or improving supply chain and sourcing processes and tools.
- Interest in emerging technologies across consumer electronics, aerospace, and robotics, and in new and developing mechanical manufacturing processes and materials.
- Experience operating in an embedded-client environment or delivering integrated supply chain solutions.
