Position Summary:

Our partner is an established luxury hospitality organization building the internal engineering capability behind its next generation of digital guest experiences. With products already serving customers, the opportunity is to shape how those applications evolve and establish a shared technical foundation for what comes next.

You’ll work directly with the Head of Engineering, bringing architectural judgment and hands-on Python and React development to systems that connect customer experiences with core hospitality platforms. There’s room to influence meaningful technical decisions, see your code through production, and make future products easier to build.

This will appeal to someone who enjoys understanding an existing system as much as designing a new one. As the engineering organization grows, you’ll help establish its technical standards, mentor engineers, and build a team while staying close to the software.

Experience and Education:

- BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or equivalent experience/field
- 7+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years leading engineers technically while remaining hands-on.
- Recent production Python backend development using frameworks such as FastAPI or Django, alongside strong React development and application architecture experience.
- Personal ownership of architecture decisions and delivery of at least one production microservices system, including service communication and failure handling.
- Experience integrating enterprise platforms, modernizing legacy APIs, and taking ownership of existing applications while maintaining continuity for users.
- Production cloud experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure, including containers, automated delivery, testing, observability, and security. GCP is preferred; hospitality systems experience is helpful.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

- Take technical ownership of existing customer-facing applications, assess their architecture, and prioritize improvements that support reliable product delivery.
- Design and build production Python services and APIs, with hands-on contributions to React applications.
- Establish reusable backend capabilities that support multiple digital products and reduce duplicated integration logic.
- Define service boundaries, API contracts, versioning practices, and Backend for Frontend layers suited to product needs.
- Design reliable communication between applications and enterprise systems, including retries, idempotency, asynchronous processing, and recovery.
- Modernize integrations with Opera and Salesforce while preserving compatibility with live applications.
- Partner with the Head of Engineering on the evolution of API management and the transition from legacy interfaces to modern APIs.
- Guide SQL and NoSQL data design, balancing consistency, performance, and maintainability.
- Strengthen automated testing, code reviews, application security, and observability across the development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with the SRE & DevOps Lead on cloud deployments, delivery pipelines, and application reliability.
- Investigate production issues across application code, services, and integrations, and turn findings into lasting improvements.
- Translate product needs into practical technical approaches, explaining tradeoffs and challenging assumptions constructively.
- Help hire, mentor, and grow an engineering team while continuing to contribute directly to architecture and code.
