Import/Export & IMMEX Lead — Tijuana
Líder de Comercio Exterior e IMMEX
The Role
You'll be the hands-on lead for import, export and IMMEX activity at our Tijuana operation. It's a working lead role. You'll do the work yourself, build the processes, and coordinate with our customs brokers and with our purchasing, warehouse, shipping and accounting staff.
What You'll Own
- Shipment and document reconciliation: make sure pedimentos, commercial invoices, packing lists and receiving records match for every import and export.
- Broker coordination: work day to day with our customs brokers (agentes aduanales) and keep their filings in line with what physically moved.
- Inventory-control accuracy: keep our Anexo 24 / Anexo 31 inventory records accurate and supported by documentation.
- Classification and USMCA qualification: lead tariff classification (HTS / TIGIE) for our products and parts. Track the U.S., Mexican and non-regional content of materials and labor in each product, and confirm whether goods qualify for USMCA (T-MEC) preferential treatment. Identify sourcing or production changes that could bring more of our products under the USMCA. Prepare and maintain certifications of origin and supporting records, and confirm classifications with our customs brokers.
- Landed-cost inputs: supply and reconcile freight, duties, brokerage and other import costs that feed product costing. Accounting owns the overall costing system. You own the trade data that goes into it.
- Escalation: identify and escalate discrepancies quickly, with a proposed fix.
Compliance questions should be confirmed with our customs brokers, not assumed.
Your First 90 Days
- Map the current import/export process from purchase order to pedimento to inventory record.
- Identify gaps in our inventory and supporting records.
- Agree on a prioritized correction plan with Tijuana operations leadership and Accounting.
How Success Is Measured
- Document accuracy across shipments and pedimentos
- Reconciliations completed on schedule
- The number and age of open discrepancies, trending down
- Agreed corrective actions completed on time
- All active products classified, with origin determinations documented and up to date
- Products identified and moved to USMCA-qualifying status, and the duty savings achieved
Growth Opportunity
As the Tijuana operation grows, there is room for this role to expand into a Foreign Trade Manager position. That role would lead a small team and take on CTPAT/OEA certification and trade work across the EPC companies. Over the longer term, it could grow into a broader trade compliance leadership role for the group. Advancement depends on demonstrated performance and business need. We'll review progress and development goals with you every six months.
What You Bring
- Experience:
3–5+ years in foreign trade (comercio exterior) at an IMMEX maquiladora or shelter, with hands-on Anexo 24 / Anexo 31 work.
- Customs knowledge: strong knowledge of the Ley Aduanera, the RGCE general foreign trade rules, IVA/IEPS certification, pedimentos and SAT audits.
- Trade: hands-on experience with HTS/TIGIE classification and T-MEC / USMCA rules of origin. That includes tariff-shift rules and regional value content, the minimum share of a product's value that has to come from the U.S., Mexico or Canada. You should also have a working knowledge of U.S. CBP import requirements.
- Reconciliation skills: a detail-oriented approach to matching documents, inventory and cost data, plus experience working with accounting on landed cost.
- Education: a degree in International Trade, Customs, Accounting, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
- Language: fully bilingual Spanish/English.
- Tools: advanced Excel and ERP experience.
- Travel: a U.S. visa or SENTRI is strongly preferred.
- Leadership potential: you're ready to lead a team as the function grows, and to become the person others in the company come to on trade questions.
What We Offer
- Pay: competitive salary
- Growth: the chance to grow with the function, with semi-annual development reviews.
- Direct access: you'll work directly with U.S. ownership and senior leadership.
- Ownership: you'll build the foreign trade function from the ground up.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per month
Work Location: In person
