About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Materials Planner to own component planning and purchasing for one of our pet product brands.

You will determine what components we need, how much we need, and when they need to arrive so production stays on schedule. This is not a purely forecasting role. You will work backward from production plans, calculate component requirements, place purchase orders, track supplier deliveries, and manage component inventory through to receipt.

Our brand currently has three product lines with more than 20 component part numbers across multiple sizes, suppliers, minimum order quantities, and lead times. Missing a single component can stop a production run, so accuracy and proactive planning are critical.

What You'll Do

Components & Purchasing

Calculate component requirements from the production/build plan.

Determine net requirements based on inventory on hand, components held by the co-manufacturer, and open purchase orders.

Create and place component purchase orders based on supplier minimums, pack sizes, and lead times.

Track open purchase orders through receipt and follow up on delayed or at-risk orders.

Maintain appropriate component coverage without creating unnecessary excess inventory.

Identify potential shortages and supply constraints before they impact production.

Co-Manufacturer Management

Plan and coordinate component shipments to our co-manufacturer ahead of production runs.

Reconcile component inventory held by the co-manufacturer against our records.

Resolve inventory discrepancies and shortages.

Manage day-to-day communication around production schedules, output, delays, and component availability.

Forecasting & Inventory

Forecast finished-goods demand by SKU and sales channel.

Plan inventory requirements across Shopify, Chewy, wholesale, and Amazon.

Balance finished-goods inventory across channels and warehouse needs.

Monitor inventory levels and identify stockout or overstock risks.

Reporting & Planning

Maintain a clear, formula-driven materials planning file that the team can easily audit and understand.

Provide early visibility into component shortages, stockouts, and excess inventory.

Make specific recommendations and communicate the timing and impact of potential issues.

What This Role Does Not Own

Production scheduling: The Founder sets the build plan and assembly schedule. You will work backward from that plan to determine component requirements and flag constraints.

Amazon FBA replenishment: This is owned by our Demand Planning & Inventory Manager.

Supplier/co-manufacturer pricing and contracts: These remain with the Founder. You will manage the day-to-day relationship and escalate issues with a recommendation.

Who You'll Work With

You will collaborate closely with:

Brand Manager: Promotions, launches, wholesale orders, and Chewy demand that affect the forecast.

Demand Planning & Inventory Manager: Warehouse capacity, Amazon storage limits, FBA replenishment, and cycle counts.

Warehouse Team: Component receiving, inventory accuracy, and cycle counts.

Co-Manufacturer: Component shipments, inventory held, production schedules, and shortages.

Component Suppliers: Purchase orders, lead times, delivery dates, and order status.

What We're Looking For

Required

- 3+ years of experience in materials planning, component planning, supply planning, or a similar role within consumer products or physical-goods manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience calculating component net requirements from a production or build plan and placing purchase orders yourself.
- Strong understanding of supplier minimum order quantities, pack sizes, lead times, and order sizing.
- Experience working directly with a co-manufacturer, co-packer, or maquila, ideally where your company supplied the components.
- Experience reconciling component inventory held by a third-party manufacturer.
- Experience forecasting finished-goods demand by SKU.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, including the ability to build a planning model from scratch using formulas.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple components, suppliers, and purchase orders simultaneously.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Availability to work hours that overlap with US Pacific Time.

Nice to Have

- CPIM or other APICS / ASCM certification.
- Experience planning components for overseas manufacturing, including ocean freight and import lead times.
- Experience supporting retail or wholesale accounts such as Chewy.
- Amazon FBA or marketplace inventory experience.
- Experience in pet products, household goods, personal care, food & beverage, or other consumer packaged goods.

About Us We are a multi-brand pet products company based in Los Angeles, selling across Amazon, Shopify, TikTok Shop, and major retailers.

Our team works remotely across the US, Latin America, and Asia. We value ownership, accuracy, clear communication, and people who can identify problems early and come to the table with solutions.

If you have hands-on experience turning production plans into component purchase orders and keeping materials available for production, we'd love to hear from you.
