The Mentoring Specialist is responsible for leading, organizing, and continuously improving the SSC Mentoring Program. The Specialist supports student mentors, monitors program quality and student participation, establishes procedures, reviews evaluations and reports, and ensures that mentoring remains focused on student belonging, resource navigation, responsibility, independence, and academic success.

The Specialist works closely with Mentors and Senior Mentors, provides guidance when situations exceed the student mentor role, and coordinates appropriate referrals or additional support when needed.

- Strong organizational skills — able to manage mentors, activities, reports, evaluations, deadlines, and follow-up.




- Leadership and coordination skills — able to guide student leaders while maintaining clear roles and accountability.
- Ability to develop student independence — encourages students to solve problems, use university resources, and take responsibility for their decisions.
- Confidentiality and professionalism — handles student information and sensitive situations appropriately.
- Data-informed approach — comfortable using attendance, evaluations, reports, and other information to identify needs and improve the program.
- Collaborative attitude — works effectively with students, faculty, staff, and other university support areas.

They should be able to build trust with students while maintaining professional boundaries, develop student mentors as leaders, recognize when additional support is needed, and use program data to continuously improve student support and retention.
