We are looking for a Senior OTA Conformance Test Engineer with proven, hands-on experience in test automation, a strong command of automotive communication protocols, solid vehicle diagnostics experience, and direct, practical experience flashing Ford vehicle modules.
This is a critical requirement for the role: candidates must be able to design and build automated test solutions from the ground up, have deep technical fluency in network communication and diagnostic standards, and demonstrate real-world experience flashing and diagnosing modules such as ADAS, Cluster, and AHU (Audio/Head Unit) in the context of OTA software update validation. The selected candidate will work closely with development, automation, and hardware/software validation teams to ensure OTA updates meet customer specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute OTA network conformance testing to ensure compliance with customer specifications and automotive DoCAN standards, including ISO-15765 and ISO-14229.
- Perform vehicle diagnostics using diagnostic tools and standard protocols (UDS/DoCAN) to identify fault codes (DTCs), verify module status, and validate proper system behavior before and after OTA updates.
- Flash and reprogram Ford vehicle modules (e.g., ADAS, Cluster, AHU, and other ECUs) as part of OTA update validation, verifying successful software installation and module behavior post-flash.
- Design, propose, and implement test automation frameworks and scripts, integrating internal tools and automation pipelines to reduce manual testing effort and significantly optimize validation turnaround times.
Strong automation skills are essential and heavily weighted in candidate evaluation.
- Apply deep, practical knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) to identify and resolve hardware-software integration blockers, in collaboration with cross-functional teams and tools such as JFrog.
- Debug network timing and logic errors in customer ECUs at the protocol level, providing detailed technical feedback to the development team.
- Document, prioritize, and track issues using JIRA, ensuring full traceability throughout the validation process.
- Build and maintain automated test scripts using Python, CANalyzer, Visual Studio Code, and regular expressions for network traffic analysis and automated regression testing.
- Collaborate with network conformance automation teams to help adopt process improvements and expand automation coverage.
Requirements (Critical / Must-Have)
- Solid experience in vehicle diagnostics, including reading/clearing DTCs, interpreting diagnostic session data, and using diagnostic protocols (UDS/ISO-14229) to validate ECU health and software status.
- Hands-on experience flashing Ford vehicle modules, specifically ADAS, Cluster, and AHU,
is a strong requirement — candidates must be comfortable working directly with module flashing/reprogramming tools and processes in a real vehicle/bench environment.
- Strong, demonstrable experience in test automation — ability to design, code, and maintain automated test suites independently (not just execute pre-built scripts).
- Solid, in-depth knowledge of automotive communication protocols, including CAN, LIN, and Ethernet, and diagnostic standards such as ISO-15765 (DoCAN) and ISO-14229 (UDS).
- Prior experience in network conformance testing within automotive environments, ideally related to OTA updates.
- Hands-on experience with CANalyzer and CAN bus analysis tools.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data analysis (including regular expressions).
- Experience with issue/project tracking systems such as JIRA.
- Familiarity with artifact management tools such as JFrog.
- Ability to debug network communication issues at the ECU level and collaborate with development teams to resolve them.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams within agile frameworks.
- Nice to have: prior experience with HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) testing.
Additional Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of automotive OTA update industry standards (e.g., ISO 24089, UNECE R156).
- Experience with vehicle cybersecurity as applied to OTA processes.
- Familiarity with additional Ford-specific modules beyond ADAS, Cluster, and AHU (e.g., BCM, PCM, TCU).
- Ability to propose and drive process/automation improvements that are adopted by other technical teams.
