Basic Function and Scope of Position

Support operations and conduct trade compliance audits to assess adherence to applicable U.S. and Mexican regulations.

Responsibilities

The Trade Compliance Audit Manager is responsible for providing expert guidance and insights regarding the legal and regulatory requirements associated with importing and exporting activities.

The position plays a key role in assessing whether business processes and controls associated with cross-border transactions are operating effectively, while identifying trade compliance risks, control gaps, and opportunities for improvement.

This role requires a strong understanding of U.S. and Mexican customs and trade regulatory frameworks, including tariff classification, customs valuation, rules of origin, import and export requirements, customs duties and taxes, and other relevant trade compliance matters.

As a member of the Internal Audit team, you will be responsible for:

- Conduct trade compliance audits for Mexican entities (maquiladoras) and communicate results to management. Manage end-to-end audit execution, including planning, fieldwork, reporting, and remediation tracking.
- Design risk-based audit methodologies and controls to mitigate compliance risks and prevent non-compliance.
- Analyze large operational datasets to identify compliance trends, anomalies, and systemic risks.
- Develop scalable standard operating procedures (SOPs), governance mechanisms, and internal controls to strengthen trade compliance processes.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives with Tax and Legal teams at both local and corporate levels.
- Collaborate with customs brokers and external advisors on regulatory and trade compliance matters.
- Support the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions to address identified trade compliance risks and control gaps.




- Support entities during government audits, information requests, and on-site inspections related to foreign trade and customs matters.
- Analyze legislative and regulatory changes in foreign trade and assess their potential impact on operations.
- Develop and facilitate trade compliance training for operations teams and ensure effective internal communication of relevant legislative and regulatory changes.
- Develop and distribute timely trade compliance communications, regulatory alerts, and newsletters to inform relevant stakeholders of legislative and regulatory changes and their potential impact on operations.
- Provide support on other Internal Audit activities and initiatives, as needed.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in customs and trade compliance; consulting experience is preferred.
- Experience conducting trade compliance assessments, audits, or consulting activities.
- Experience supporting and coordinating regulatory and compliance audits, including SAT, OEA, CTPAT, and external consulting firm reviews.
- Experience building effective working relationships with cross-functional teams to support audit and trade compliance initiatives.
- Strong experience in trade compliance, customs operations, customs brokerage, supply chain, logistics, or related areas.
- Experience in related industries, preferably electronics, medical devices, aerospace, or defense.
- Strong business English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, quality, and compliance.
