A Snapshot of Your Day:
The role focuses on developing and qualifying innovative, reusable secondary technology solutions for high-voltage switchgear. This ensures reliable control, actuation, sensing, monitoring, diagnostics, and digital integration while maintaining seamless alignment and harmonization across diverse integral markets, including Europe, the USA, and Latin America.
To address these global development aims, the R&D; Secondary Technology Engineer focuses on electrical secondary systems design, standardized LCC/control-cabinet platforms, and international standard harmonization. The engineer defines technical requirements, design rules, and interface specifications for operating mechanisms, auxiliary switches, and interlocking systems. This key distinction of the role lies in developing and qualifying reusable technology platforms that project engineers later configure and apply to customer-specific switchgear solutions.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
- 50% Electrical Design & Secondary Technology Development
- Leverage 3D modelling techniques to develop reusable secondary electrical systems, architectures, and standardized LCC/control-cabinet platforms for high-voltage switchgear.
- Create master circuits, schematic diagrams, wiring plans, and interface specifications for operating mechanisms, coils, motors, and interlocking systems.
- Integrate innovative control, auxiliary, sensing, monitoring, and digital equipment interfaces (such as LPITs and IEC 61850) into switchgear products.
- 30% Global Harmonization & Standards Compliance
- Harmonize product designs to comply with diverse international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI) and regional market requirements across Europe, USA, and Latin America.
- Support product testing, prototype verification, and qualification activities in accordance with global utility and industrial standards, particularly the IEC 62271 family.
- Evaluate technical requirements and design rules to drive modularization, standardization, and technology reuse across the global portfolio.
- 20% Technical Governance & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Primary Technology, Product Engineering, Testing, and global manufacturing plants to ensure design consistency and governance.
- Support component and supplier qualification, lifecycle management, and root-cause analysis during product launch and execution phases.
What You Bring:
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable discipline.
- Typically 3-5 years of experience in electrical/control system development, preferably within high-voltage switchgear or power transmission equipment.
- Proven experience working with international engineering standards (IEC/IEEE/ANSI), requirements engineering, and global cross-functional teams.
Skills
- Electrical Engineering & Design
- CAD tools for electrical and mechanical design (e.g., PTC-Creo, EPLAN)
- Electrical secondary design (protection, control, metering, and auxiliary circuits)
- High-voltage/medium-voltage switchgear, operating mechanisms, and substation technology knowledge
- Standards & Compliance
- Familiarity with international electrical standards (IEC 62271 family, IEEE, ANSI)
- Product localization, modularization,
and harmonization methodologies
- Testing, prototype verification, and validation procedures for high-voltage equipment
- Professional & Collaboration Skills
- Cross-functional, multicultural collaboration and systems-thinking
- Technical documentation, requirements engineering, and specification analysis
- Professional proficiency in English and Spanish (written and spoken)
