We are currently seeking an experienced Benefits Specialist to join the Lifeline team. The Benefits Specialist will be responsible for the accurate and timely administration of employee group benefits, including enrollments, changes, terminations, and insurance claims support. This role serves as the main point of contact between employees and the benefits/insurance provider, ensuring a positive employee experience and full compliance with plan requirements. The environment is fast-paced and non-union.

Key Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Vice-President of HR
- Independent Contractor (Remote)
- Administer the full employee benefits lifecycle: new hire enrollments, dependent additions, life-event changes, and terminations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding group benefits (health, dental, life, disability, and other insurance coverage)
- Liaise with the benefits/insurance provider to resolve claims, coverage questions, billing discrepancies, and eligibility issues
- Process enrollments and changes accurately and on time within the benefits provider portal
- Reconcile monthly benefits invoices and maintain up-to-date eligibility records
- Track probation periods and waiting periods to ensure timely benefits eligibility
- Support employees with short-term and long-term disability claims, leaves of absence, and return-to-work documentation
- Coordinate with Payroll to ensure benefit deductions are accurate
- Prepare and distribute benefits information, enrollment packages, and employee communications
- Maintain confidential employee benefits files and ensure compliance with internal policies and privacy requirements
- Support annual plan renewals and open enrollment, if applicable
- General HR projects as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
- 2+ years of experience in benefits administration, group insurance, or a related HR role
- Solid knowledge of group benefits, insurance plans, enrollment processes, and claims management
- Experience working with Canadian or U.S. benefits providers is a strong asset
- Advanced/fluent English (C1 or higher), written and verbal, is required. You will communicate daily with employees and insurance providers in English.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when handling data and confidential information
- Strong customer service and communication skills; able to explain benefits clearly to employees at all levels
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and Google Workspace is required
- Experience with HRIS or benefits portals is an asset
- Reliable internet connection and a suitable home office setup
