Location of Search : Philippines and Latin America
Work Location : Remote
Engagement Type : Full-time independent contractor, approximately 40 hours per week
Reports To : President; CEO

Company Overview:
The company is an accounting and advisory firm based in Highland, Indiana, in the greater Chicago land area. The firm provides ongoing monthly accounting, payroll, and tax compliance services to small and mid-sized businesses, along with individual tax preparation.
This position sits in the monthly accounting practice, which is the firm’s recurring client service line.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an Accounting Manager to own the accounting function across a book of business clients while remaining hands-on with day-to-day accounting, team management, and client deliverables. This is a management role that requires strong hands-on accounting, not a production-only seat.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Own and oversee monthly accounting across multiple clients, including month-end close and all recurring deadlines.
Perform the accounting work directly, or assign it to a team member and track it through to completion.
Supervise accounting staff: assign work, review output, and develop the team.
Review work, identify errors or missed items, and ensure every client deliverable goes out on time.
Manage full-cycle bookkeeping through client-ready financial statements.
Handle payroll processing and multi-state payroll tax filings.
Manage multi-state sales and use tax filings and reconciliations.
Maintain the firm’s deadline calendar across the client book.
Manage business entity renewals and annual reports, and support workers’ compensation and insurance audits.
Communicate directly with U.S. small business owners and coordinate daily with internal staff.
Report client and team status proactively to the President & CEO.
Hard Requirement
Strong spoken and written English is required. This person speaks directly with U.S. small business owners and coordinates with internal staff every day. Verbal fluency and confidence matter as much as writing. This requirement will be assessed in live conversation, not from the resume.
Management Requirement
Prior management experience is preferred, but candidates without formal management experience may be considered if they have demonstrated readiness to step into a management role.
Must have experience taking ownership of a client book, training or supporting team members, reviewing work, or identifying and correcting missed items.
Candidates who have only completed assigned tasks without taking ownership or overseeing others are not the right fit.
Technical Skills Requirement
Full-cycle bookkeeping through client-ready financial statements. Not data entry, not AP-only.
QuickBooks Online, including the Accountant view: adjusting entries, reclassification, bank feed and rule management,
undeposited funds cleanup.
QuickBooks Desktop. Real experience, not exposure. Several clients remain on Desktop.
Multi-client payroll processing across varied pay frequencies, including off-cycles, terminations and fringe items.
Multi-state payroll tax: 941, 940, state withholding and unemployment filings, W-2s, W-3s, 1099s.
Prepared and reconciled, not simply pushed through a platform’s automated filing service.
Multi-state sales and use tax: registration, filing, and reconciliation back to the books.
Month-end close across a book of clients on a deadline calendar.
Ability to manage a full client load against recurring deadlines without being assigned work item by item.
Preferred, Not Required
U.S. individual and business tax preparation (1040, 1120S, 1120, 1065).
Drake Tax, or comparable software such as UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSeries, ProConnect or CCH Axcess, with willingness to learn Drake.
CPA, Enrolled Agent, or an accounting degree.
Workers’ compensation and insurance audit experience.
Prior experience at a U.S. public accounting firm, which differs from in-house accounting.
Working Conditions and Expectations
Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, during the stated client hours.
Reliable high-speed internet and a quiet environment suitable for client calls.
Candidate provides their own computer and reliable internet connection. The firm provides access to its accounting, payroll and tax systems.
The role handles confidential client financial data. A confidentiality and data security agreement is required, and client data may not be stored on personal devices.
Start date: as soon as the right candidate is identified.
