Summary:
AutoZone is seeking an experienced FinOps Engineer to help advance and mature our FinOps practice. We have made significant progress in our public cloud journey with
Google Cloud Platform as our primary provider and are now focused on optimization, modernization, automation, and building the next generation of FinOps capabilities. Maintaining strong financial stewardship remains a priority as our cloud footprint continues to grow. This position will be instrumental in evolving our FinOps capabilities, improving how we optimize and allocate technology spend, and building automation and engineering solutions that help us get the most value from every dollar invested in cloud.
Our FinOps organization works closely with financial, engineering, architecture, product, and business stakeholders to drive cost transparency, accountability,
optimization, and better technology investment decisions. This position will also be responsible for training stakeholders on AutoZone's FinOps practices and capabilities.
Responsibilities:
AutoZoners have a contagious work ethic; including a high sense of urgency to resolve issues quickly, creatively, and efficiently. As a Systems Engineer, you will be expected to:
• Contribute, influence, and provide subject matter expertise in the continued evolution of the FinOps Roadmap for AutoZone
• Advance and automate Cloud FinOps practices, including optimization, allocation, forecasting, and cost governance
• Contribute to IaC and reference architecture with FinOps discipline and rationale
• Enhance cloud spend reporting and cost allocation capabilities
• Develop and improve cloud spend forecasting
• Build and maintain data pipelines and data products supporting FinOps reporting, allocation, forecasting, and optimization
• Develop dashboards and self-service analytics that provide actionable financial and operational insights to engineering, finance, and leadership teams
• Provide reporting & readouts to executives around cloud spend, usage, optimization, and value
• Work cross functionally to identify and execute cloud cost optimization and modernization opportunities
• Partner with Product and Engineering teams to achieve cost optimizations across initiatives
• Build automation and self-service capabilities that improve how FinOps operates at scale
• Apply engineering, data, and AI capabilities to improve FinOps processes and decision making
• Work with varying degrees of technical and financial skillsets, such as product engineers and non-technical product owners
• Bridge gaps in finance and technology working with business and IT leaders
• Work with varying groups from product teams to business leaders to influence strategy, architecture, and cloud usage
• Work on a distributed team using chat and collaboration software for primary communications
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Information Technology, or closely related degree (Required)
• Experience in Cloud Cost optimization or similar FinOps role
• Experience in a major public cloud provider such as AWS, Azure or GCP
• Strong Technical and Financial acumen
• Development experience in one or more of the following: Java, JavaScript (Typescript/NodeJS), Python
• Experience and understanding of serverless and cloud-native technologies including Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, GKE, or similar platforms
• Experience with reporting, data visualization, cloud billing data, and large-scale data analysis
• Familiarity in developing software using Agile processes and the Scrum framework
• Experience in Google Cloud Platform, including cloud native services and pricing models
• Experience with BigQuery, Dataflow, Looker, and other cloud-native data and analytics technologies
• Experience building and maintaining data pipelines, transformations, data models, and large-scale analytical datasets
• General data engineering experience, including SQL, ETL/ELT patterns, data quality, and data integration
• Experience building dashboards, semantic models, and self-service analytics using Looker or similar business intelligence platforms
• Familiarity with Terraform
• Hands on Financial/Accounting experience
• Familiarity with FinOps tooling, cloud billing data, and cost allocation practices
• Experience with cloud cost data, reporting, forecasting, or optimization automation
• Familiarity with FinOps standards such as FOCUS is a plus
