About the team
The Specialist II, Software Engineering, Back End designs, builds, and maintains server-side services and platforms that power Zillow’s products, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and performant. This role contributes to the full software development lifecycle, collaborates closely with cross-functional partners, and uses modern cloud and data technologies to support high-traffic, multi-brand experiences and enable developer productivity.
About the role
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable back-end services and APIs that support high-traffic, customer-facing applications across multiple Zillow brands. - Develop, test, and deploy high-quality, maintainable code using modern programming languages and frameworks, following secure coding, observability, and performance best practices. - Collaborate with product, engineering, and data or machine learning teams to integrate services, optimize data flows, and improve end-to-end platform performance. - Diagnose and resolve production issues by analyzing logs, metrics, and traces, and contribute to improving monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes. - Participate in backlog grooming, estimation, code reviews, and technical design discussions, providing constructive feedback and helping refine solutions for moderately complex problems. - Contribute to automation of build, test, and deployment pipelines to improve release reliability and developer productivity in a cloud-based environment. - Share knowledge and mentor peers informally by documenting services, contributing to internal best practices, and supporting continuous improvement within the team.
This role has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and instead work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live anywhere in Mexico, with availability to travel to Mexico City, as we recommend attendance at occasional office events.
In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits,
this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. - 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on back-end or server-side development. - Experience designing, implementing, and operating back-end services or APIs for web or mobile applications in a cloud environment (such as AWS, GCP, or Azure). - Experience with at least one modern programming language commonly used for back-end development (for example, Java, C#, Python, Go) and with relational or non-relational databases. - Experience contributing to cross-functional projects, including participating in technical design, code reviews, and iterative delivery in an agile or similar environment. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
