Company Description: The Automatic Control Group of the Research and Advanced Studies Centre (CINVESTAV), Guadalajara Unit, focuses on scientific research in control engineering, applied to system dynamics, robotics and humanoids, process control and automation, drone and automotive electronics applications, computer vision and energy systems, data-driven and learning-based control, physics-informed neural networks in control, safe and certified control, resilient control of cyber-physical systems, and model predictive control at scale. Recognised as one of the world's leading groups in control engineering, operating in academic environments and across local, national, and international productive sectors. Faculty collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at other local universities, such as La Aquila, Oxford, and Zaragoza, to advance scientific knowledge and develop practical solutions to real-world challenges in robotics, humanoids, drone applications, automotive electronics, electric vehicles, and energy.
Its mission emphasises academic excellence, applied research, and the training of highly qualified professionals and researchers.
Role Description: The Faculty Member role is a full-time, on-site position based in the Guadalajara, Mexico Metropolitan Area.
The Faculty
Member will deliver graduate courses, including lectures, seminars, and laboratory sessions in areas related to the research topics cultivated in the group. Daily responsibilities include preparing course materials, advising and mentoring students, supervising thesis projects, and maintaining regular office hours. The role involves conducting independent and collaborative research, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, and actively pursuing external funding.
The Faculty
Member will also participate in academic committees, contribute to curriculum development, and engage with industry and institutional partners to support technology transfer and applied projects.
Qualifications
- PhD degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanics, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, applied mathematics or a closely related field (i.e., Physics, other engineering disciplines such as software or chemical) to those mentioned above.
- Demonstrated research experience, including a record of peer-reviewed publications, participation in funded projects, and engagement with academic or industrial research networks.
- Strong teaching and pedagogical skills, with experience designing courses, delivering lectures and labs, assessing student performance, and mentoring students at postgraduate levels.
- Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in academic governance and committee work.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Capacity to develop partnerships with local, national, and international academic and productive sectors, including industry collaboration and technology transfer initiatives.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance teaching, research, and service responsibilities in a full-time academic role.
- Commitment to inclusive, gender-neutral, and non-discriminatory practices in teaching, mentoring, and collaborative work.
- Experience supervising graduate students, leading research groups, or managing research projects is an asset.
- Willingness to be present on campus in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area and to participate in institutional events and outreach activities.
