About the Role

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Hardware & Software Design Release Engineer (DRE) to lead the engineering development, validation, and production release of advanced climate control hardware and embedded software architectures.

In this senior technical role, you will take full ownership of electronic climate control modules, sensors, actuators, and embedded software algorithms across conventional, hybrid, and electric vehicle platform applications. Operating out of our Mexico Service Center, you will collaborate with general engineering teams, software developers, calibration engineers, and Tier-1 suppliers to deliver industry-leading climate comfort, energy efficiency, and thermal management solutions from concept definition through production launch.

Key Responsibilities

- Component & System Ownership: Own the end-to-end engineering development, validation, and production release of HVAC control hardware, embedded software, and vehicle communication interfaces from initial concept through vehicle launch.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical direction on assigned HVAC control components; lead design reviews, risk assessments, and technical issue escalations. Mentor junior engineers and drive best practices in engineering change management and validation execution.
- Requirements & Release Management: Define and maintain hardware/software technical specifications, interface requirements, source packages, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and complete release documentation.
- Supplier Leadership & APQP: Direct Tier-1 hardware and software suppliers; assess design maturity, evaluate technical risks, review supplier deliverables, and ensure compliance with program timing and quality standards.
- Integration & Validation Execution: Lead hardware and software integration across bench, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), vehicle-level, and production environments. Define and execute Design Verification Plans & Reports (DVP&R;) and DFMEAs.
- Data-Driven Root Cause Analysis: Analyze vehicle, bench,

and test data to lead root-cause problem solving (using 8D, 5-Why, or Fishbone methods) for hardware faults, software bugs, CAN/LIN network issues, and vehicle integration bottlenecks.
- Launch & Field Support: Support vehicle testing trips, assembly plant builds, supplier audits, and production launch activities to ensure release readiness and rapid open-issue closure.

Qualifications & Skill Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressive automotive engineering experience focused on embedded controls, software/hardware development, HVAC systems, or vehicle systems integration.
- Vehicle Networks & Diagnostics: Practical experience with CAN and LIN communication protocols, automotive diagnostics, vehicle integration troubleshooting, and diagnostic tools (e.g., Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, CANape, or INCA).
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven track record of leading complex technical investigations, making data-driven decisions, and managing Tier-1 supplier deliverables.
- Language & Communication: Professional working proficiency in English (written and verbal) to collaborate seamlessly with global engineering teams, present technical risks to leadership, and direct international suppliers.
- Mobility & Travel: Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally to support plant launches, supplier facilities, and vehicle validation trips.

Preferred Qualifications

- Direct experience with electronic climate control modules, HVAC sensors, actuators, and electric heat pump systems for electrified vehicles (EV/HEV).
- Hands-on familiarity with Model-in-the-Loop (MIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing methodologies, along with MATLAB/Simulink.
- Deep understanding of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, DVP&R;, and component-level EMC/EMI or environmental validation standards.
- Experience supporting automotive assembly plant launches and production line issue resolution.
