Business Development / Prospecting
This is a specialist role, not a general sales position. If you can't speak fluently about hardware finishes, leather grades, and what actually drives resale value in the first two minutes of a call, this isn't the right fit — and that's intentional. We'd rather leave the role open than staff it with someone who has to Google "Togo vs. Epsom" after the interview.
The Role
We're expanding a scale-up project focused on outbound outreach and relationship-building in the luxury handbags and fine jewelry space. You'll identify, qualify, and onboard both sellers and buyers of high-end designer handbags, luxury accessories, and fine jewelry — driving the top of the pipeline through cold calls, SMS, email, and social outreach.
This is a sales-driven, prospecting-first role. But unlike generalist sales positions, success here depends on product fluency: knowing what separates a $3,000 bag from a $30,000 one, why a client should trust your opinion on their Birkin's resale value, and how to spot the details that actually move price.
What You'll Own
- Prospect and generate new leads through cold calls, SMS, email, and social outreach
- Qualify potential sellers and buyers based on inventory value, purchasing power, and fit for the luxury market
- Guide clients through onboarding and ensure a smooth experience submitting and transacting luxury items
- Maintain an active pipeline and track progress through CRM tools (HubSpot or similar)
- Build long-term relationships and act as a trusted advisor, not just a salesperson
- Speak confidently and specifically about product value — construction, materials, condition, and rarity — not just brand name
- Consistently meet or exceed outreach and conversion targets
Required Expertise (Non-Negotiable) This knowledge is not "nice to have" — it's the bar for a first-round call.
Brand fluency, including but not limited to: Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Goyard, Bottega Veneta, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co., Rolex, and adjacent luxury accessory and fine jewelry houses.
Handbag construction and materials:
- Leather types and how they behave and age — Togo, Epsom, Clemence, Lambskin, Caviar, Calfskin, box calf, exotic skins (crocodile, alligator, ostrich, lizard)
- Stitching techniques and terminology — saddle stitching, hand stitching, edge painting, glazing
- Hardware types, plating, and finishes, and how condition/patina affects value
- How to visually and physically identify construction quality and craftsmanship
Fine jewelry fundamentals:
- Precious metals and purity marks (karat/purity hallmarks, platinum vs. white gold, plating)
- Gemstone basics — the 4 Cs, common cuts and settings, natural vs. lab-grown, treated vs. untreated
- How setting style, metal weight, and stone quality affect valuation
Market and value judgment:
- What drives rarity, demand, and resale value for a given piece (limited editions, discontinued colorways, waitlist status, condition grading)
- General familiarity with the luxury resale/consignment landscape (e.g., how platforms like The RealReal, Fashionphile, Rebag, or Chrono24 grade and price comparable items) and basic authentication red flags
If you're strong on brands but can't speak to construction, materials, or valuation drivers, please don't apply — this role won't be a fit for either of us. Experience & Requirements
- 1+ year hands-on experience with handbags (required) — buying, selling, authenticating, consigning, or reselling
- 1+ year hands-on experience with fine jewelry (required) — same criteria as above
- Experience in lead generation, cold outreach, or client-facing luxury sales
- Comfortable and confident on live calls, in writing, and over messaging
- English required; additional languages a plus, especially for international clientele
- Basic CRM proficiency (HubSpot or comparable
