DescriptionAmazon's LATAM Operations Compliance team is seeking a Food Safety Compliance Lead to support the company's food safety program in Mexico.
This role ensures ongoing compliance with Mexican food safety regulations, including COFEPRIS requirements and applicable NOM standards.
The successful candidate will be responsible for regulatory engagement, compliance monitoring, training development, incident management, and site visits across Amazon's operations in Mexico.This is a critical regulatory role that requires independent judgment on regulatory interpretation, direct engagement with Mexican authorities, and autonomous decision-making in a complex and evolving regulatory environment.Key job responsibilitiesLead compliance efforts related to Mexican food safety regulations (COFEPRIS/NOM standards), ensuring Amazon operations meet all applicable requirementsServe as Operations Compliance point of contact for regulatory engagement with COFEPRIS and other food safety authoritiesCollect, maintain, and manage compliance documentation required for operationsMonitor audit results and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to closureDevelop and deliver food safety compliance training programs for operational teamsManage food safety incidents, including investigation, root cause analysis, and resolutionConduct site visits to verify compliance with food safety standards and identify improvement opportunitiesMonitor regulatory changes to COFEPRIS/NOM standards and assess impact on Amazon operationsProvide cross-functional advisory support as the food safety SME for business expansion initiatives (new categories, new sites)Track compliance KPIs,
develop metrics, and report to leadership on program healthCollaborate with Operations, Business teams, Legal, WHS, and Quality stakeholders to embed food safety requirements into processesDevelop scalable solutions and mechanisms to maintain compliance across a growing operational footprintA day in the lifeAs a Food Safety Compliance Lead, you might start your day reviewing the latest regulatory updates from COFEPRIS and assessing whether any operational changes are needed.
Mid-morning, you could be conducting a site visit to verify food safety controls are in place, followed by a debrief with the local Operations team on findings.
In the afternoon, you might lead a training session for a newly launched site, then close the day by updating your compliance dashboard and preparing a status report for leadership.
No two days are the same - you'll balance proactive compliance work with reactive incident management, all while building relationships with regulators and internal stakeholders.About the teamThe LATAM Operations Compliance team ensures Amazon's operations across Latin America comply with local regulatory requirements.

We are a team of subject matter experts who navigate complex regulatory landscapes and translate requirements into actionable programs.Basic Qualifications4+ years of compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk/loss prevention, or equivalent experience3+ years of managing food safety and quality in a large-scale retail or manufacturing environment experienceKnowledge of retail food code and regulations governing grocery retail at local, state, and federal levelsExperience interacting with local food safety regulatorsExperience in English-language communication skills, both written and verbalBachelor's degree or equivalentPreferred Qualifications3+ years of program requirements definition and data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements experienceProfessional auditing qualification, or similar risk or compliance credentialsExperience with SQL and ExcelExperience demonstrating problem solving and root cause analysisBachelor's degree in Food Science or related fieldExperience designing and developing IT or technical training materials and contentOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
