Main Purpose
Own the "Explore the Future" horizon of Sigma's corporate strategy: identify, size and build the business case for long-term, transformational growth opportunities — anchored in health through food and other disruptive growth avenues — and convert them into investable, decision-grade options for the ExComm.
The role turns ambiguity into evidence: opportunity framing and scoring, market and competitor analysis, financial modelling, test-and-learn economics, and an M&A;, partnership / venture pipeline
Key Responsibilities
- Opportunity discovery and framing: lead the business framing Sigma's Explore the Future opportunity map — health through food (nutrition, metabolic health, longevity, functional protein) and other transformational growth avenues
- Business case building: develop end-to-end investment cases per opportunity — demand logic, value pools, business model, high-level capital needs, P&L; and economic profile; identify and calibrate risks and mitigations
- Sizing and market analysis: TAM/SAM/SOM sizing, consumer and category deep dives, competitive and disruptor scans, and science to build a defensible fact base under high ambiguity and continuous change enviornments
- Opportunity scoring and prioritization: inform a consistent scoring model (attractiveness, right to win, capability stretch, time to value, capital intensity, strategic fit) to rank and stage-gate the funnel of opportunity with business rigor
- Strategic fit and disruptive potential: test each opportunity against the core and the portfolio role taxonomy, making explicit the disruption, cannibalization and option value versus incremental growth
- Financial modelling and test-and-experiment rigor:
support in the build of staged-investment models; co-define experiment design, success metrics, kill/scale criteria and post-experiment economics.
- Capability stretch point of view: define the capabilities, assets and operating model changes Sigma must build, buy or partner for in order to win in each space, and the sequencing to get there
- M&A;, partnership and venture pipeline: maintain a screened pipeline of targets, JVs, licensing and CVC routes per growth space, and support Growth and M&A; teams on screening and commercial due diligence.
Requirements & Considerations
- 3-4 years in business / marketing / innovation / commercial strategy or analysis
- Proven ability to build business cases and financial models from scratch
- Market sizing and primary / secondary research; able to build a defensible fact base with incomplete data and to challenge conventional wisdom with evidence
- Test-and-learn experimentation with financial rigor: staged investment, success metrics, kill and scale criteria.
- Executive communication and influence without formal authority; comfort with ambiguity, intellectual curiosity balanced with analytical discipline
- Available to travel - 20% approximately
